Jazz Agenda Oct / Nov 2013 – Madrid

There are many ways to explore the beautiful capital of Spain: you can go on walking tours through its historic squares, churches and palaces, admire its modern architecture or visit its world famous parks and museums. However, today we thought about all of you who love music and want to discover the city through Jazz.

As the night comes, the capital of Spain vibrates with the sound of music. The encouraging extensive musical agenda designed to delight of jazz lovers, makes Madrid a real musical paradise. Here are some of the most important concerts of the season:

 

North Mississippi Allstars in concert at Caracol in Madrid

The American band North Mississippi Allstars, famous for their bold performances that combine sounds of Jazz, Blues and Rock n´ Roll, will be in concert at Madrid’s Caracol concert hall on the 10th of October at 20:30 Hrs. Formed by Luther Dickinson, Cody Dickinson , Chris Chew and Duwayne Burnside (son of country blues musician RL Burnside), North Mississippi Allstars will fill the Spanish capital with their inspirational songs including “Keep the Devil Down” , “Meet Me in the City”, “Stompin My Foot” and their latest “I´m Leaving” . Tickets: 18 Euros.

Jazz by Julio Cortázar in the Juan March Foundation in Madrid

50 years after the publication of Hopscotch, the most famous book by Argentine writer Julio Cortázar, Foundation Juan March will present a series of concerts with his favorite music: Jazz. Cortázar was much more than just a Jazz fan; his passion for this musical genre led him to shape his literary works with the sounds of Jazz. Some of the musical works that will be performed at this event include:

• La vuelta al piano de Thelonious Monk (Around the piano of Thelonious Monk) – Moses P. Sanchez Trio, November 16 at 12:00 and 19:00 Hrs.

• Rayuela en Música (Hopscotch made Music) – Federico Lechner, Guillermo Lancellotti, Andreas Prittwitz, Antonio “Toño” Miguel and Andres Litwin, November 23 at 12:00 and 19:00 Hrs.

• Charlie Parker, El Perseguidor (The Tracker) – Period Sambeat Quartet, November 30 at 12:00 Hrs.

These concerts will be accompanied by a Jazz sample “Deep into Cortázar’s bookshelves” that will take place on the 16th, 23rd and 30th of November. Free entrance.

Jamie Cullum at La Riviera in Madrid

With a unique blend of Jazz, Pop and Rock, Jamie Cullum has created an elegant mix of different sounds, with which he has managed to conquer the European market. According to Jamie himself, most of his songs are composed in his own kitchen, where by the way, he has a small piano that serves as a working tool when inspiration takes him by surprise. Jamie will perform his most famous songs, including “You´re Not The Only One” from his latest album Momentum, in a concert at La Riviera in Madrid on November 27 at 20:00 Hrs. Tickets: 35 Euros.
