Christmas in Madrid with Children

Christmas is one of the most beautiful times of the year, it is even more so for kids who like to experience the magic of a time that the lights, music and pleasant family gathering. For those who like to travel by taking advantage of year-end parties, we will tell you that Madrid has great entertainment for the whole family this Christmas. Just to take an evening stroll through the center of town is a nice motivation and encouragement , because during this holiday lighting streets fills us with joyful  evocation, makes everything even more beautiful and cozy, ideal for walking with kids . The beautifully lit avenues are the Gran Vía, Goya Street and Ortega y Gasset. No one can miss the Christmas market in the Plaza Mayor, which begins in November and lasts until January 7, 2013. This is the most famous Christmas market in the city and you can find everything there to decorate, plus clothes at reasonable prices, some items you can buy for gifts and toys for children. It is very busy during these months and it starts around 10:00 and closes around 23:00 hours. It can be reached by metro stations Opera or  Sol. The kids will have fun at the same rate as adults do. DCODE Festival 2012

On September 14 and 15, Dcode Festival returns to the campus of the Complutense University (Madrid) to delight music lovers with its second edition. The festival promises to be one of the year’s best musical events, thanks to the excellent line-up that has brought together, among others, The Killers, Sigur Rós, The Kooks and Kings of Convenience. Dinner for Schmucks in Madrid

The Rialto Theatre of Madrid will host the hit comedy “Dinner for Schmucks ”.  From the 4th of July till the 5th of August, you will be able to attend this show, which is undoubtedly one of the most interesting comic performances of the year. Ninety minutes in which you won’t be able to stop laughing. Francis Veber, who also was responsible for his film version, wrote the original French work. The critics were agreed in giving the ” Dinner for Schmucks ” the award of successful show. Proof of this is that it started to be performed in other venues around the world and the film industry of the United States decided to shoot it again in 2010 to bring it to the big screen.   In Spain, the version has been renewed under the legendary production of Josema Yuste. As he confessed in one of his interviews, Yuste was captivated by Veber film from the moment he saw it. Finally, after several months of preparation, he  could be surrounded by a large group of actors and comic artist, accompanying him on this new adventure. The three actors who star in the Spanish version are: Josema Yuste, Agustín Jiménez, “Felisuco” and Juan Solo. Edward Hopper’s exhibition arrives at Thyssen Museum in Madrid

On the 12th of June 2012 the works of the American painter, will be the protagonists at Thyssen Museum in the Spanish capital. This is the first really important exhibition devoted to the artist at European level and it is also, a unique opportunity to enjoy his most famous and daring paintings. With this exhibit, visitors to the Thyssen will tour Hopper´s life since the moment he traveled for the first time to Paris in 1907, discovering and falling in love with European painting until the end of his days. 70 works by this artist in total, 40 of them created and during his older age as:  “House by the Railroad ” or “Gas”, both part of the permanent collection of the MOMA Museum in New York. Edward Hopper was inspired by the film industry for many years, but after the 50’s, it was the other way around and ended up inspiring even the Hitchcock films. The painting “House by the Railroad”, for example, inspired the film “Psycho”. Also, he was able to inspire several American poets that mentioned his works in their compositions. Edward Hopper was not interested in avant-garde like Matisse or Picasso. He was inspired by artists such as Albert Marquet, Félix Valloton and Walter Sickert” as you will be able to appreciate in this exhibition. He was an almost lyrical painter.
