This city is, hands down, one of the prettiest places in Italy, besides being an ideal destination for tourists. History, culture, art, fun times, good food… What more could one ask for? You probably already know the best of Florence in 5 steps, and you’ve probably also read our tips on what to do in Florence at night.

Today we bring you a different activity: the route of the selfie. Just take your smartphone along and get ready to see the most charming spots in the Tuscan capital from all possible angles. And then, in just one click you’ll have an unforgettable souvenir of your trip!

1.The Piglet at Mercato Nuovo

We’ll kick off  the tour with a truly original sight: the fountain of Il Porcellino at the Mercato Nuovo. This is a bronze statue with a deceiving name, as it is really a boar. This little friendly animal is so popular that most people refer to the market where it stands as Mercato del Porcellino. Upon closer inspection, you’ll realize that its nose is rather shiny, as hundreds of people rub it every day. Tradition has it that touching the boar’s nose and inserting a coin in its mouth is bound to bring good luck. So, what are you waiting for? Take a selfie by it and give its nose a rub!

If you head over to Palazzo Budini Gattai and look up, at any time of any day, you’ll spot a window that’s always open: the window on the far right on the top floor. Legend has it that a noblewoman who used to live in that room spent her days sat by the window waiting for her beloved to return from war. He never made it back bust she waited for him until the day she died. It is said that when they tried to shut the window, mayhem ensued, caused by the woman’s ghost. And for this reason, it has been left open. Take a selfie whenever you are in Florence to make sure that it always remains open.

These huge and magnificent world-renowned gardens are a true open air museum, but also the perfect place for a relaxing stroll and snapping beautiful pictures. One of our favorite places for selfies is the tunnel of trees: from the right angle, you’ll look as if completely surrounded by nature.

4.Santa Trinidad Bridge

Is the Ponte Vecchio too crowded for you? Get back there later and in the meantime, go see Ponte Santa Trìnita. This 14th century bridge, which many consider to be among Europe’s most beautiful, joins Piazza Santa Trinità and Piazza De Frescobaldi. And the best part is that you’ll have the Ponte Vecchio as background to your selfie. The perfect view.

5.The Vasari Corridor

If seeing the Arno River from one of its bridges is not enough, climb up a little higher and take a selfie from the Vasari Corridor, an elevated passageway connecting Palazzo Pitti and Palazzo Vecchio, passing through the Uffizi Gallery and over the Ponte Vecchio. Inside it you’ll be immersed in art, and on the outside, you’ll have breathtaking views over Florence.

6.The Dome of Il Duomo

You’ve probably been to the Florence Cathedral on multiple occasions, but if you haven’t climbed to the top of the dome, you’ve missed out on the best part. Yes, it’s true that the line can be overwhelming, and the 450+ steps are not something to look forward to, but the views from the top are well worth your effort and the 10 euro entry fee. At 130 meters this dome designed by Brunelleschi is among the largest in the world, besides being the perfect spot for a selfie.

7.Piazzale Michelangelo

We saved the best for last: if you want to behold one of the best views over the city and take one of those pictures that will be the envy of everyone, you’ll have to head up to Piazzale Michelangelo. From this panoramic terrace you’ll have amazing views over the entire city, and you’ll even see the Fiesolean hills on the background. Our advice is to head up there with your better half and snap a selfie together. It will make for a beautiful and romantic souvenir of your trip to Florence.
