Flying into the city that never sleeps with a terrible case of jetlag is no-one’s idea of a wonderful start to that much anticipated holiday. But, with a little bit of planning and discipline, you can help your body fight jetlag so that you can enjoy you New York adventures sooner after landing. There are multiple elements in an international flight that work against your body. Cabin pressure has been shown to have similar affects on the body as altitude, making you dehydrate quicker. Add that to interrupted sleep, change in time zones, lower humidity that dehydrates you, less oxygen and more carbon dioxin, and you have yourself a reliable cocktail for jetlag. Here are some well-tested anti-jetlag tips to try before, during and after that long-haul flight: Stay Hydrated This number one rule to beat jetlag isn’t as simple as drinking more water. Topping up those lost minerals is also key to make sure you don’t dehydrate. Instead of just water, try also drinking electrolyte-containing sports drinks, coconut water or tomato juice before and during your flight. Making sure you actively hydrate your body up to two days before you leave, a couple of times every hour during your flights, and in the days after you land, is a great way to manage jetlag. Also, to top up your sodium levels during the flight and encourage hydration, snack on pretzels and salted nuts, and add a little salt to your meal. Rest Up Making sure you are well rested and sleeping at the right times is another great way to ready your body for a changed time-zone...
A bunch of activities await us in the famous Central Park, a park that immerses the city with its green areas, beautiful landscapes and lakes in which the tips of the New York skyscrapers reflect. Its flora extends itself along the 842 acres of land, the biggest park in Manhattan. Many valleys and Elm forests cover the grass where squirrels, rabbits and other animals live, such as turtles and frogs, who scare off with their jumps all the birds who come fishing in the lakes. This is an ideal place for you to come with your pet in perfect symbiosis with the people who visit it, the surroundings and the animals who live there. For that, you have to comply with certain rules set by the park organization so you can fully enjoy it. Dogs can go without a leash in the areas that allow dogs every day from sunrise until 9am and from 9pm until the park closes. At all times, the dog must be on a leash in the other areas of the park and the owners should pick up all the residues that the animals leave in all areas of the park. Don´t let your pet dig or play with the gardens or flowers, or drink and play in the water fountains. You´ll find fountains where they can drink from in various spots around the park. Dogs should also be on a leash in the following areas: Arthur Ross Pinetum, Bridle Path, Cedar Hill, Conservatory Garden, Kerbs Boathouse Plaza, Shakespeare Garden, Strawberry Fields, Turtle Pond Lawn and in the forests. Dogs are welcome in most areas...
In New York it is very easy to get lost or find yourself. Many travelers come to New York in search of pleasure and entertainment and are surprised by the absorbing power of this great city. A place that has grown mainly by the presence of immigrants from all over the world, New York represents many nationalities and cultures, thousands of unique personalities that converge to feed a city in constant change and movement. knowing New York is to walk from one side to another of Fifth Avenue, up the Empire State Building, see the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge, see the Chelsea galleries, visit the MOMA, eat a hot dog on the street and move around Manhattan. These days, the most curious ones choose Brooklyn as the meeting point of the new generations or alternative public. This huge district hosts a diverse population that consists of several generations of immigrants from Russia to Latin America, from Jamaica and Israel, etc.. Equally rich in tradition and culture, classic Harlem is a community of mostly African American, whose history has given us the greatness of soul, James Brown, Funkadelic´s incredible music and of course, the Jackson family first appearing in the mythical Apollo concert hall. Of course, in addition to these districts we have effervescent Queens and Bronx that long ago congregate mostly the Hispanic community in New York. In Queens, you find many Colombian food restaurants between traditional bas and other foods. The Bronx, is characterized by its various trading outdoorpoints and of course, the famous City Island Avenue. This long avenue crosses the small island of...
Summerstage is a festival in New York founded in 1986 in the heart of Central Park, with the purpose of serving as a free public resource to help enrich the lives of New Yorkers. In 1990, City Parks Foundation launches free concerts in neighborhood parks throughout the city under the name of City Parks Concerts. That same year, Central Park Summerstage moved a hundred yards east of Naumberg Bandshell to Rumsey Playfield, for they needed more space to house people because of their success. In 1994, City Parks Foundation is officially in charge of the management of Summerstage, being awarded in 2003 by the Municipal Arts Society to help make New York a more livable city for its inhabitants. Year after year the Summerstage, a program of City Parks Foundation, presents performances of outstanding artistic quality, free of charge, to serve the diverse communities of New York City. Among the hundreds of concerts performed throughout the summer, we recommend the Beirut concert at Rumsey Playfield, on August 29 at 6 pm, while not free, the ticke price is interesting (from $ 32 ) Beirut is an American band that was formed in 2006. their music, which could qualify as alternative, combines elements of indie rock, folk of Eastern European and Mexican music. This is obvious in their first album Gulag Orkestar. In their latest album, The Rip Tide, in part, they become detached from the world music that had always characterized them, to create, from their own personality and freedom, a more reflective type of music, with many reminiscences of the past of its leader, Zach Condon . They...
Summer is here and despite the marine breeze that sneaks around the skyscrapers, it´s incredibly hot in New York during this time of year. Although the air conditioning makes it a bit easier, it´s not great to stay at home, so going to a public pool and taking a dip is a great idea. Since there´s not a lot of space there, here´s a list of the best pools and their address. These are not all the free open-air pools in the city but some of the best ones. They are in all the districts in the Big Apple and most of them aren´t suitable for those with agoraphobia, such is their size. Asser Levy Sports Center. Behind the facade of this impressive neoclassic building and the advertisement of ´Free Public Baths´ are two open-air swimming pools that are completely free to enter, as the advert says. There´s another one that´s covered and great to swim in, but you have to pay for it. They´re open every day and the complex is located on #23 West St. Dry Dock Sports Field. Located on #408 East St, this is a clean swimming pool without a tree or shadow in sight, with a small game park annexed for the young kids. It´s totally free. Hamilton Fish Center. Also adequate for kids because it has two open-air pools, one of them exclusively for the children. Located on #128 Pitt St, it also has a gym, table tennis tables, weights area and swimming lessons for free. The pools are enormous, proportionately to the size of the Big Apple, and they also have lifeguards....
The spring exhibition 2012 organized by the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, explores the striking similarities between these two Italian designers from different periods. Inspired by the satirical “Impossible Interviews” for Vanity Fair done by Miguel Covarrubias during the thirties, the curators Harold Koda and Andrew Bolton have presented a dialogue between these two iconic women to suggest new readings of their most innovative works. Curators Harold Koda and Andrew Bolton organized this interesting exhibition. Film director, screenwriter and producer Baz Luhrmann was the creative consultant of the exhibition and created a series of filmed items for this exhibition. Catherine Martin, who is a long time collaborator of Luhrmann, did the production the filming design. The exhibition design was done by Nathan Crowley, who served as production designer (he was a creative consultant for the exhibition “Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy” and “American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art). All treatments of the mannequins’ heads of the masks were designed by Guido Palau. In the galleries, the iconic sets by Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada are presented in short videos, simulating a dialogue between these two outstanding designers; directed by Luhrmann, the exhibition focuses on how they explore related themes in their work through very different approaches. “By juxtaposing the work of Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada, allows us to explore how the past illuminates the present and how this revives the past,” said Koda. “The connection between the historical and modern highlights, the similarities and variations between two women who constantly have revolutionized contemporary notions of taste, beauty and glamour,” said...
