10 – The bridges of Belgrade

Belgrade is a city that is located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. With the expansion of the city over the centuries, Belgrade was developed on several riverbanks and today it is joined by seven bridges, including those of Alexander I, the first pedestrian bridge, and Ada, the most modern and attractive.

Vračar is a neighborhood located in the center of the city and noted for being the place where you’ll find the St. Sava’s Cathedral. It is one of the best places for travelers who want to enjoy the true spirit of Belgrade.

 

8 – Tašmajdan Park

The Tašmajdan Park is one of the most beautiful green areas around the capital. It’s a place to a stroll and be surrounded by tranquil beauty, sit on a bench to read a book, or simply enjoy the weather. And don’t forget to visit the lovely St. Mark´s Church while you’re there.

 

7 – Topčider and the residence of Prince Miloš

If the Tašmajdan Park seems small, the forest and park called Topčider is a green space in the south of the city where you can enjoy nature surrounded by trees, small streams and small bridges that you can cross. It is a place of pure relaxation. In addition, the park contains the former residence of Prince Miloš, a house you can visit to experience the 19th-century past of the city.

 

6 – Ada Ciganlija

On sunny days in Belgrade, locals head to Ada Ciganlija, an island in the Sava River, which is also known as the Sea of Belgrade. Although only 2.4 km long and 200 m wide, on sunny days this island is filled with people taking a dip and sunbathing on the shore as well as visiting one of its many bars. If it´s hot in the city, this is the place to go.

 

5 – Exceptional Museums

In Belgrade you can visit a number of spectacular museums. One is the Nikola Tesla Museum, a museum dedicated to the famous inventor and scientist, where you can see some of the most improbable and incredible inventions of the world up close. The other is the Aeronautics Museum, where you can admire all types of aircraft from different eras, including some from World War II and American ones from the Balkan War.

Belgrade is, like many of the cities of Eastern Europe, a great place to party. Prices there are not excessive like further west on the continent, and the atmosphere is totally unique. There’s a wide range of bars and nightclubs throughout the city.

Belgrade´s architecture is truly unique, and one can enjoy the city’s distinctive styles. The most important building is Saint Sava’s Cathedral and its dome and gold accents; other important ones include the St. Mark’s Church, the Alexander Nevsky Church and the St. Michael’s Cathedral.

The Serbian cuisine is delicious, and you can enjoy it at the local restaurants that serve it, known as kafana. When you visit Belgrade, do not forget to try delectable dishes like ćevapčići or burek at the many kafana you’ll find in the old town.

Skadarlija is the most emblematic neighborhood of Belgrade, a neighborhood with hills, cobbled streets and bars with outdoor terraces that reminds one of Montmartre in Paris. It is a fascinating bohemian neighborhood in Belgrade and the place that will make you fall in love with this city. It will make you long to return as soon as you have left.
