The Right Marathon for You

One reason marathons are appealing, aside from doing the sport itself and the desire for self-improvement, is the environment. There are places on our planet where being able to practice running is priceless, and where tourism can be accomplished among thousands of people looking for the same thing as you, to be the best of the best. This race starts in the U.S., passes through the UK, continues along the Alps and ends in China. Are you ready? Grab your backpack, sneakers, a bottle of water or sports drink and get running. I’ll give you all the details below.

Run the Great Wall of China in Tianjin

It starts in the Puerto Huangya area of Tianjin. Admittedly, this marathon is undoubtedly one of the most complicated in the world due to its terrain. The many ups and downs and huge steps will require more than just good physical preparation. And running in China has added value. You can practice languages, be motivated by the Chinese people’s steadfastness and capabilities, and, of course, enjoy a unique setting. Imagine the challenge.

Running in the U.S.

I mention the Boston Marathon in this post for 2 reasons: because it is America´s oldest (dating from 1898), and because the victims of the 2013 attacks will always be present in our memory. In 2014, the number of participants will rise to 36,000, which is an additional 9,000. It’ll be a bit of a macro-marathon event. In addition, it falls on April 21, Patriot’s Day (a very special Monday holiday in the state of Massachusetts). It will be a day for solidarity like few others in the sport world.

Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc: French, Swiss and Italian Alps

We now face the most difficult route on foot in Europe. It’s not suitable for beginners, as it requires many hours of effort (between 30 and 40 hours) along Mont Blanc with views of Switzerland, France and Italy. Being able to admire the beauty of the Alps from here is priceless, it’s absolutely awe-inspiring. Snow may still be possible in the mountains in spring, but generally there’s good weather and the greens of spring dominate the landscape and the thaw will have already commenced. Are you ready to tackle an extreme marathon like this? It really is only suitable for bold adventurers.

Runners in London

Discover the Virgin London Marathon. On April 13, 2014, some 37,000 runners will take over the streets of the British capital. It is also said that this is one of the best organized races in the world. Another reason to do it is that the money raised is given to charity. The marathon starts in the southeast of the city and crosses some of the most renowned business districts, passes along the banks of the River Thames with views of Big Ben, and finishes in one of the most recognized sites: Buckingham Palace.
