In the first four seals or prophecies of the Book of Revelation (the last book of the New Testament) the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse appeared, bearing false prophets, wars, famine and death; the Fifth announced The Great Tribulation, where the Christians are persecuted; in the Sixth Seal four angels appear who bring horrific natural disasters to the planet.
When the Apostle John opened the Sixth Seal, it augurs terrible catastrophic events: earthquakes without precedent, the darkening of the sun and the moon, a rain of meteorites of devastating effect, the opening of the heavens and the quake and movement of every piece of land in the earth. In addition, all human attempts to be safe will be in vain. Some people say that these events have already occurred, but experts ensure that the heavenly signs are yet to come, and that these catastrophic events will strike the earth as never before, leaving the worst signs of horror and hardship.
The earthquake will reach such dimensions that it will trigger landslides and volcanic eruptions, and the dust, the ash and the smoke will cover the earth so that the sun will not shine and the moon will turn red. But first, a fifth angel appears to ask the first four not to harm the earth until they have sealed the servants of God. Thus, 144,000 anointed ones will be blessed to preach the gospel of Christ, without fear of death.
If the mission of the four angels were to harm the earth through natural disasters, the prophecy is ongoing… Throughout history many natural disasters have ravaged the planet, causing billions of deaths, injuries and material and natural losses.
Thus, the tsunami in Indonesia (26-12-2004) has been one of the most horrific natural disasters of this decade, causing more than 260,000 dead; it has been one of the deadliest natural disasters in modern history. Many coastal communities in Asia, including parts of Indonesia, such as Sri Lanka, India, and Thailand were affected. So far, this is the second largest earthquake ever recorded by a seismograph, with a magnitude of 9.3 points on the Richter scale. The earthquake occurred in Spain, Portugal and North Africa in 1755 and caused between 130,000 and 200,000 deaths. This earthquake was followed by a tsunami and fire, causing the almost total destruction of Lisbon. Hurricane Katrina (2005) has been one of the deadliest, destructive and costly tropical cyclones that have plagued the United States. It is estimated that it caused damaged of around 75 billion dollars along with the deaths of 1,836 people. Most recently of all has been the devastating earthquake that reached 7 on the Richter scale in Haiti. The latest casualty report, from the European Commission citing Haitian government figures, doubled previous estimates of the dead to approximately 200,000.
These are just a few examples of horrific natural disasters that have ravaged the land: floods, fires, hurricanes, earthquakes, deadly plagues, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis… Is the worst really yet to come?
