The Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe is another of the classic icons of the city of Paris. Located in Charles de Gaulle Square (old Place de l´Étoile) the arch rises at over 50 metres in height from where you can appreciate perfectly well the largest avenues of the French capital.

Built in the honour of Napoleon Bonaparte, his battles and military victories, the famous Arch of Paris is a symbol which is sensitive to the city. There´s a permanent guard of soldiers there that protect the eternal flame of the unknown soldier in homage of all the fallen during the First World War.

Located in a key point of the city, in the west point of the Champs-Élysées Avenue, the Arc the Triomphe was ordered by Napoleon once he´d won the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805, as gratitude to his soldiers.

The façade of the magnificent construction shows some battles and has written names and dates from France´s history.

Day to day, the most famous arch in Paris is visited by thousands of tourists that go up to it´s terrace to see the sunset.
