In summer, life takes place outside. Good weather invites us to move everything outside. Meals on terraces, sports out of the gym… even movies are hitting the streets!
The initiative of taking film out into the open air to enjoy movies under the stars has been so successful that today pretty much all major cities include outdoor film festivals in their summer planning. Here we give you a small selection so you can choose where to experience a lovely summer night. So grab your popcorn and get ready to go.
Cinema under the skies of Barcelona in Montjuic Castle. From July 6 to August 8, 2014, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10 pm. Admission: € 6. This is one of the best known of the city’s festivals. And it offers a little bit of everything: a compilation of the best movies of all time, live music, picnics and shorts. They even offer the opportunity to attend a master class prior to each film to learn more about the movie. More information: http://salamontjuic.org/es/programacio/
The cinema, the summer movies of the Cibeles Palace, takes place from July 9 to August 31, every night from Tuesday to Sunday at 8 pm. Admission: € 4. Based on the Anglo-Saxon concept of “pop-up” cinema, they screen all sorts of films, from classics, musicals, cult films, to independent cinema, Spanish movies, and hits from the 80s and from all over Europe in unconventional spaces. http://www.thecinema.es/.
HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival, takes place June 16 to August 18, every Monday at 5 pm. Free admission. Even the Big Apple follows the trend of cinema without walls with this film series that offers a variety of movies. http://www.hbo.com/hbobryantparkfilmfestival/
Hot Tub Cinema offers a variety of events at different prices. Here the concept of outdoor cinema is taken a step further by adding bubbles. The idea is to watch movies under the starry sky while you relax in a Whirlpool bath. People generally also wear costumes, sing, dance, drink and play. Usually, the film ends up being the least important aspect. http://hottubcinema.com/
Movies on the grass in the Parc de la Villette, from July 23 to August 24, at 7:30 pm. Free admission. This is a wonderful opportunity to spend a pleasant summer evening in the largest urban cultural park in the capital. http://www.villette.com/fr/agenda/cinema-en-plein-air-2014.htm
