Freedom Tower was the original name of the current One World Trade Center in New York. The skyscraper replacing the Twin Towers, after its destruction in the terrorist attack in 2001, it is the new symbol of American society and will eventually be opened in 2013 in Lower Manhattan.
The construction of this building has had a cost of 2000 million dollars and reaches a height of 541 meters, qualifying it as the third tallest building in the world (Burj Dubai with a height of 828 meters, Torres Abraj Al Bail with 601 meters height). 242,000 meters square will be used for offices.
This skyscraper is the result of a fusion of ideas from the architects David M. Childs and Daniel Libeskind, of the Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP study, which was introduced in 2003 in the Federal Hall by Governor George E. Pataki and Michael Rubens Bloomberg, Mayor of New York.
Its architecture is very particular, it has a square base that is changing as it rises and as a visual results it becomes eight isosceles triangles, ending with the surface of the top floor at a rotation of 45 degrees fromthe base of the building. The building culminates with a glass wall that projects a powerful image. To complete it, it will have a TV antenna that will simulate the Statue of Liberty and a system of lights that will illuminate the skies over New York and will screen over 300 meters from the end of the tower.
This building is full of symbols, one of them is that the height of 541 meters which is equivalent to 1,776 feet, which corresponds to the year of the Independence of the United States, July 4, 1776. Also, the roof will be located at 417 meters, corresponding to the exact size of the Twin Towers.
The new World Trade Center, will consist of three office towers and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.
Considering the terrible damage done to the Twin Towers attack and the anticipation of any disaster that may occur, they have taken all security measures available to today´s construction industry, as the walls are reinforced with 91 cm thick concrete, there are three staircases for firefighters of special dimensions that can evacuate a large number of people in emergencies, as well as a water sprinkler systems and chemical and biological filters in the ventilation ducts.
The construction of the tower has not been out of trouble, hence the delay in delivery that has lasted two years. In 2006 work was stalled due to controversy over the safety, budget and design. Finally, everything was passed and it is expected to be inaugurated next year.
