The National 21st Century Art Museum, better known as MAXXI, is one of the most interesting contemporary art museums in the city of Rome.
The most interesting thing about MAXXI is its very peculiar design that was devised by Zaha Hadid, who won the worldwide competition that took place to see who was going to do it. When its visitors go inside they feel that they are in a work of art which is completely surreal because there are ramps, strange angles, oblique windows or completely hidden corners.
Despite the museum being really young, it presents some art collections that are by truly respectable artists like Francesco Clemente, William Kentridge or Gerhard Richter.
But beyond the works exhibited in the temporary or permanent collections, going to this museum is a must because of its construction, which is unique around the world. You can rent apartments in Rome and not let this chance escape.
