Naturism in Barcelona

What would the world look like without all the public nudity in our society? Very boring that’s for sure! Nudism is an essential part of modern culture. For many people it’s a way of life, a way to express their true self. Others see nudity as something dirty, something you keep indoors. Whatever you think, we live in a free country and everybody lives their life the way they want. Naturist culture is widespread in many countries and all societies.

The tradition and history of nudism depends on the country. Germans for example have never been shy, and Germany has a long tradition of naturism, while in Spain it’s a fairly recent phenomenon. During Francoist times it was forbidden, and was seen as something indecent. No wonder that after the death of Franco and years of repression the bomb exploded. And Barcelona is the city par excellence to experience the nudist culture. There are some beautiful nudist beaches, where you can enjoy a swim in your birthday suit. However, if you want to take it to a higher level and you’d like to walk around the city naked… it’s completely legal too!

The best nudist beaches are close to the metro stations of Barceloneta, Ciutadella, Bogatell, Poblenou, Llacuna, Selva de Mar and El Maresme Forum. The most famous are Sant Sebastiá, Nova Icària, Bogatell, Mar Bella, Nova Mar Bella and Llevant. There you will find hammocks, lounge areas as well as beach bars.

But not only Barcelona has gorgeous beaches, why not make a daytrip to some nearby villages and towns? Sitges for example, with the bay of Home Mort or the sandy beach of Balmins.

If you’d like to take a tour of the Catalan coast and discover some great beaches, put the following places on the top of your list: Ponent in Masnou, Musclara in Caldes d´Estac, Fortí in Mataró, Murtra in Sant Pol de Mar or Roca Grossa in Calella. Closes to the city centre there is the Parque Las Dunas in Baix Llobregat, or the famous town of Castelldefels.

You hate the feeling of havin sand between your toes? Don’t like the salty seawater? No problem, the pool of Montjuic organises weekly sessions of naked swimming. A true paradise, right? Did we make you curious? Then come and discover the Spanish naturism in Barcelona.
