Viewpoints in Barcelona

Have you ever dreamed of being Icarus and seeing a city like Barcelona from the air? It´s a great dream, but reality is somewhat different. However, we can see the cities from high points and we will tell you the secret of how to do it if you´re in Barcelona and have no wings to fly. Heights have a fatal attraction when you travel to a city and that´s due to the desire that we all have of seeing at a single glance everything that surrounds us, even more so if we´re going for a limited time to a place and we want to take back as much visual memories as possible. Barcelona has beautiful places to see panoramically from the air. One of them is the Mirador de Colom, which is a tower with a viewpoint that has in its upper part the statue of Cristopher Columbus pointing towards the Mediterranean. It´s located on the bottom of the Ramblas and it was built by the Council in 1881 to pay tribute to the discoverer of America who arrived by in Europe to the port of Barcelona. From there you can see all of the city´s splendor in the four areas of the city. North we have the Gothic district, the bell towers of La Mercè and Santa María del Mar, the Ramblas and even the beautiful Eixample district. Looking south we can see Montjuïc, to the west we have the Natural Park of Collserola and to the east, following the coast, the Forum. The Torre Agbar is one of the three skyscrapers that Barcelona has and it distinguishes...

Contemporary Art Fair in Istanbul

It is curious that despite the economic crisis that spreads through Europe and around the world, art fairs continue to move and generate the curiosity of the general public. It´s like if suddenly, against all the world´s economic mirages, art tended to keep solid to counter arrest the economic downturns in Greece, Spain, Ireland, Italy etc. Where is the secret of this investment? The cities of the world, not necessarily capitals compete for access to infrastructure and production and foreign exchange for cultural promotion. Common cultural subjects in a city as a center of trade, knowledge and artistic production become possible and are consolidating their position within the European Art Union. Thus, emerging cities that were once somewhat peripheral such as Porto, Bilbao, Seville, or Istanbul among many others, are gradually positioned within the circuit of the art market and production by local artists thus they become known and begin to have an impact, because interest grows, and therefore buying and selling art becomes common. Galleries, museums, cultural centers, seminars and others consolidate this positioning. Fairs, of course, too. Thus, the International Contemporary Art Fair, Art Bosphorus, is presented as one of the most important art fairs of Istanbul, and there  some of the leading names of Turkish art and the world can be found. According to the presentation of Art Bosphorus, its goal is to help promote art introducing new and different types of artwork, from paintings, sculptures, to ceramics, video and installations, among other forms of art representation. Its  aim above all, is to spread knowledge to the masses and create a platform so this exhibition is...

Roze Filmdagen Festival in Amsterdam

Turning popular culture into a corporate event is always a risk when it comes to creating festivals or cultural events of all kinds. Today, the cities of the world invest in creating events, festivals, concerts, exhibitions and political actions, with the targeted reason to be better  outlined in the international arena, making the city itself a competent city, cosmopolitan, politically correct  while criticism of the political contexts are generated by its governments . Thus, the profile of a postmodern city has all these ingredients, there is no homophobia, you demonstrate on the streets if it´s a protest, there is tolerance towards immigration and the residence of foreigners,  art and culture from  all over the world is consumed, and there is a respect for the multiplicity of cultures, its meetings and tangents, and production of new knowledge. Nothing could be more utopian. The truth is that today, the EU implies a state of xenophobia, homophobia, misogyny and ultra right fascism that is eating away the foundations of the meaning of its existence. While the “alleged” reason for the formation of the European Union was stopping the possibility of another World War, that  war has now gone to the people, usually minorities inhabiting the continent. And that is the current state of the political and economic global system:  we are all minorities. Of course, unlike other places, tolerance and political presence of the LGBT community, immigrants, feminists and anti-system exists. However, it does have a serious contradiction between the cultural policies of cities and the actions of these groups, you better keep your eyes open. We then have for example an...
