Anonymous and the Death of Facebook

Since the appearance of Anonymous on the internet there continuously have been different happenings on the streets, public spaces and social networks. There is no doubt that Anonymous acts as an instrument of the spreading of ideas and suggestions to fight the split political and economical system in which we currently live in. But where is Anonymous? Who is it? What is it about? Many people ask these questions without having an exact answer and there really is no exact answer. Anonymous is first and foremost an idea.  And from there on different networks, branches, events and movements have emerged in reality as well as in the social networks. The biggest obstable for a revolution is the wish to establish itself, creating a new status or system of health and order, trying to overcome risk can reach a stable and sustainable change that reaches everyone indefinitely. Maybe nothing mistaken anymre. And that is why Anonymous has such a great impact in the spreading of protest and activism. Recently there has been somewhat of a debate about the actions that Anoymous has been executing among other participants on the internet. Especially under critique is a web with the titel “What is the plan?” in which it seems that 3 operations for 2011 are presented, the first of these was “Operation Onslaught” on July 30, in which all followers of Anonymous were asked to get information on governing problems in their communities and to make them known on the streets as well as on the internet on this day. However, information about the “original” community of the Anonymous collective was posted...

Tori Amos Concert Rome

Tori Amos is one of the most influential singers of the 90s, and she´s back in Italy on tour presenting her new album ´Night of Hunters´, released in May of this year. She´s one of the most eccentric characters in the world of pre-Lady Gaga pop music, but also a singer of great talent and many instrumental capacities. Her piano, who has been with her since the age of 3, has always been her biggest expressive weapon. Since she was little, at the age of 5,  she became famous in the musical scene of her city (Rockville, Maryland), when in 1968 she managed to get in the Peabody Music Consevatory, who accepted her with a full scholarship. She was the only student accepted there of the age of 5 in the whole history of this conservatory but, a few years later, her scholarship was retracted and Tori Amos was expelled of the school for her “subversive” attitude: she liked rock (at 11 years old she sung Led Zeppelin songs and this was unconceivable in such a strict school). Also, her way of playing was always more instinctive rather than controlled and following the rules and virtuosity. She hated the music sheets, hated discipline and this made her look heretic in her teacher´s eyes. That´s how Tori Amos ended up playing in bars with help from her father, who managed to get her some shows and continuously sent demos of her songs to all record labels in the country, with a near-complete dedication and total faith in his daughter´s talent. He wasn´t wrong. It was on one of these occasions...

‘Elektra’ by Richard Strauss at the Teatro Real in Madrid

With autumn, Madrid shows its best face. The activity in cafés and restaurants, streets and avenues and squares and museums comes back. After the summer break, it seems that everything is back in its place, and not only in terms of work but also in that small leisure patch which we leave for the development of our soul and intellect. The exhibitions, theatre plays and, of course, music concerts are back. And if there´s a must-go place for music lovers in the Spanish capital that is, undoubtedly, the Teatro Real de Madrid, Madrid´s Royal Theatre, one of the best opera palaces in Europe. Even if it´s for only enjoying one of its programmed concerts, it´s worth going to the Plaza de Oriente or to the Plaza Reina Isabel II. If, also, it´s the staging of an opera, the evening will be more than complete. At the Theatre, the season begins on September 30th with the opera ´Elektra´ (1909) by Richard Strauss (1864-1949). Much has been said about Strauss´ second opera, the first in collaboration with the screenwriter Hugo von Hofmannsthal (1874-1929) and whose level of dissonance arrived at the limit of the German composer´s career. Elektra has the experimental and offensive character in line with all the artistic expressions of its kind in the first decades of 20th century Europe. Lesser known than its symphonic poems such as ´Thus spoke Zarathustra´ (1889) and ´Don Quijote´ (1897), Elektra is based on the classic work with the same name. The drama of Elektra was originally narrated by Homer, but the ancient authors made their own singular versions. The complete works or...

Salvatore Ferragamo: the shoemaker of the stars

In 1898, when Salvatore Ferragamo was born, the shoemaker trade was considered the most humble amongst the humble. So it´s not strange to think that in his house they cried out loud when, with just nine years of age, he told his firm intention that he wanted to become a shoemaker. Back then, few could have imagined that this humble boy would become an ambitious businessman as well as an innovative artist. And we must classify him as such, as an artist, because Salvatore Ferragamo lifted the humble trade of shoemaker to the level of quality of art, reaching levels of quality and originality which had never been reached until then. In his autobiography, published in London in 1957 under the title ´The Shoemaker of Dreams´, the Italian confessed: “I was born to be a shoemaker. I know, I always knew. Remembering now the long education in my life, I see clearly and just how strongly, ruthlessly and inflexible is the passion in me which pushed me further and further down a road full of adversities”. With this dream and just sixteen years of age, Ferragamo went to America. He ended up in Santa Barbara where, just as he got there, the American Film Company ordered him a series of models to be used in the making of films. If the orders of the film companies accumulated in Ferragamo´s workshop, the orders from celebrities and film stars for him to design exclusive, comfortable, luxurious and even extravagant shoes for them weren´t any less. The success carried on in Hollywood from 1923. At this time he designed round-pointed shoes (baptized...
