Lucknow in Paris
Maybe it is not just a coincidence that the city Lucknow in India has been known for centuries as the Golden City of the East and the Constantinople of India, located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, where the first bank of ADN Asia is found. Not in vain do the above mentioned credits refer to the splendid multicultural past of this city, whose legacy is still remembered as something legendary and whose power of inspiration continues though there was a rapid decline of the so extraordinary and fabulous city after the Rebellion of 1857 and the establishment of the imperial power of the British over this Asian country. Its aura, halo and charisma live on despite the controversies in regards to the national identity, moving constantly in a territory of ambiguity and contradictions. Therefore it is difficult to define the place that occupies the myth of Lucknow in culture. Its position varies in the collective unconscious – also in historical records that are so special in the culture of this Asian country. It keeps moving between places where we find sources of great national pride and those where it is impossible to speak of the golden eras that disappeared to never return again. We can inform ourselves through the splendid exposition at the Guimet Museum for Asian Art with the title Une cour royale en Inde: Lucknow (XVIIIe – XIX ème siècle). Through more than 200 pieces of art that include paintings, water color paintings, sketches, jewelry, decorative art and fotos (not just an art in itself but an excellent medium for propaganda with the purpose to create...Crazy Jog in Paris

In his novel from 2003 Paris never ends writer Enrique Vila-Matas from Barcelona pays a strange homage to Marguerite Duras and Ernest Hemingway, and through them, a way of being in the world that is not understood unless its learnt from books and words. In more than one sense it is a novel of sentimental education, a book about the ways in which a young man starts on the road of life and art. The book´s title comes from the last paragraph of the autobiographical novel by Hemingway, A Moveable Feast, where the American writer says of the French capital that if you lived in it, it is a city that never ends, to which one always returns -in a different way- according to each individual. For Hemingway, as stated in the last sentence of the novel, a golden memory remains of the years of his youth in which in Paris he was very poor and at the same time very happy. To this luminous Hemingway memory, Vila-Matas sadly and ironically stamps his own, for he too was a very poor young man in Paris, but unlike the Nobel Prize also a very unhappy being and that is what he intends to tell in his book, the first two years in the early seventies when he was very poor and very unhappy in Paris due to his ignorance of how to proceed correctly in both life and in literature, fields in which he was firmly installed in a cult of the black This nihilistic and the despairing, irreplaceable synonymous that he thought of elegant and distinguished due to his...The abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the oldest church in Paris
The Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés is considered the oldest church in Paris. Located in District 6,a graceful neighborhood full of cafes, art galleries and luxury shops. It was a very intellectually and prestigious area at the time of existentialism when cafes were frequented by intellectuals such as Sartre and Beauvoir. Located on the left bank of the seine river at the outskirts of early medieval Paris, a location prone to flooding at the time of its construction, the Abbey had to be placed in the middle of the prairie or “pres” in French, hence the name. Founded in the sixth century by the Merovingian king Childebert I. In 542, at war with Spain, the king withdrew the siege on the city of Zaragoza when he learned that its inhabitants had seeked protection from San Vicente Martir. In gratitude, the bishop of Zaragoza gave the Merovingian saint´s robe, and Childibert on his return to Paris built the Santa Cruz Cathedral in order to house the relic and lay conserve kings tombs. After the Benedictine monastery was erected It is believed that that was when it took its current name from the bishop of Paris, Monsignor Germain. In the ninth century, the church was looted and burned to the ground at least four times by the Normans, leaving only the columns in the clerestory. It was rebuilt and enlarged in the 12th century by Pope Alexander III. The Romanesque bell tower of the entrance was built as a solid buttress to support the weight of large bells, and is one of the oldest that are still standing in France. The French...The Marriage of Figaro in Paris
On at Paris´ Opera Bastille until the 7th of June, is Mozart masterpiece The Weddings of Figaro, featuring some of the best soloists in the world, with Bárbara Fritoli playing Countess Almaviva, and Ekaterina Syurina playing Susanna. The Weddings of Figaro is a great four act which was composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart from the libretto by Italian poet Lorenzo da Ponte, who had been inspired by the comedy The Marriage of Figaro, by Pierre Agustín Caron de Beaumarchais. Mozart met da Ponte in the house of his first child´s godfather, the Baron of Wetzlar, and they started to put Beaumarchais´ satirical work to music. Da Ponte was an adventurer born in Venice, who had abandoned his religious upbringing to devote himself to literature, going on to hold the post of court playwright. His career working in the court hadn´t brought great success, so the project of adapting Beaumarchais was his great challenge. The piece opened in Paris to a certain amount of suspicion, due to the fact it was inspired by a text written by somebody who served in the French Revolution, and who had written in a satirical style in order to reflect upon the power struggles of the decadent nobility. Emperor Jose II opposed it being shown in Vienna, one of the most eminent places for opera at the time, as he considered it a bad omen, and too risky. Mozart and Da Ponte managed to convince him to show it, on the condition they made some amendments to the libretto, making it more socially acceptable. The fifth act was quickly deleted, and five characters omitted....Champs Elysées
