Elio e le Storie Tese concert in Rome

Elio e le Storie Tese: a band that no Italian born in the 80s does not know. Stefano Belisario, aka “Elio”, founded the band in Milan during those years but, in fact, the first core of the band is older, and originated in high school in 1975, when Belisarius and two other classmates ( one of which is now the manager of the band) performed in front of ten retired citizens, a mini-concert. Since that day, Belisarius was  nicknamed “Elio”, title of the song he sang. In subsequent years, the band has changed its components and and has become more and more popular and it all started with the editing of bootleg demos and playing in a music center in Milan known as the Zelig.Success with  Elio e le Storie Tese was achieved thanks to their numerous television appearances, and in particular at the International Song Festival of San Remo (the most popular pop music event known in Italy) in 1996. The final formations is composed of eight members: the aforementioned frontman Belisario Stefano, Nicola Fasani (bass), Christian Meyer (drums), Davide Chivaschi (guitar), Sergio Conforti (keyboard), Antonello Aguzzi (keyboard), Vittorio Cosma (guitar) and Luca Mangoni, which actually is an architect and is responsible for the sets and choreography of the band. Elio e le Storie Tese is a favorite band of the younger generations of the  mid-´90s, the decade that generated a true boom and certainly there have been those who recall the iconic theme “Tapparella”, as a  song really to be considered an anthem for a generation. With his irony and his desire to make the audience laugh,...

Tribute to Povera Art in Rome

On the occasion of the celebration of the 150 years of unity of Italy, the famous artist, critic and curator Germano Celant has organized a series of events and curated a series of samples in honor of the “Arte Povera”, one of the Italian movement that encouraged – more significantly – the artistic creation of the post war period. This current, which was known nationally and internationally only during the late Sixties, was based on the realization of works of art through the use of material considered “poor”, ie low economic value. Thus, using glass, wood, leaves or rocks, metal plates, coal, and others. The only rule that moved the current was to find easily available materials   and create a work of art – with its auratic value – from what could be considered trash. The reason was a metaphorical escapade from the distribution of the art, and the desire to advance towards a different approach, avoiding the realization of distance-generating objects in the viewer, but creating works that invite to interact with them. In this sense, Arte Povera is very committed to a social level, offering a strong critique of the media, as well as rejecting the reductive images and creations of serial pop art or minimalism. It is for these reasons, that this art proposes an interesting extremism at the operational level and which also highlights a strong belief in the spontaneity of the creative act, and a desire to recover the utopian dimension of artistic creation. Until January 8th, at the Maxxi museum in Rome, you can visit the exhibition “Homage to the Arte Povera”, created...

Costanzi Theatre, the Opera House in Rome

Domenico Costanzi was the architect of the creation in 1880 of the prestigious theater dedicated to opera and ballet. The dream of this businessman, who arrived in Rome in 1870, was to give the capital a venue that would live up to its category and international prestige of the Italian lyric tradition. To achieve this he invested part of his personal fortune in the project, which was commissioned by the architect Achille Sfrondini, a specialist in the construction and restoration of theaters. Built ina  record time of 18 months, it could accommodate over 2000 spectators and had three levels of boxes, an amphitheater and an art gallery, all crowned by a dome with exquisite frescoes by Brugnoli. The opera “Semiramide” by Rossini, was chosen for its opening, being attended by the king Umberto I and his wife the Queen Margherita Since then it has undergone several reforms, name changes and countless managers as well as it has received prestigious artists and performances. Now it is called the Opera House which  in its 131 years, has written many memorable pages of musical theater, opera and dance shows. Herbert von Karajan, Enrico Caruso, Rostropovich, Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Maria Callas, are only a small part of the illustrious characters who have left their footprints in the Costanzi. It currently has 2200 locations and an  exquisite programming. In addition to the orchestra,it has its own ballet company and dance school, as well as a very popular yearly dance season. Since 1937, with the arrival of summer and the end of the winter season, the Opera performs an outdoor programming in the archaeological...

A wonderful show for this Christmas in Rome by the ´Accademia Filarmonica Romana´, who will perform their already famous Christmas concert, a show which is lived in a special and magical way in the Italian capital. On this occasion, the choir of the philarmonic will offer the attendants of the Olympic Theatre in Rome a concert of the best selection of traditional Christmas music from all times and places. ´La Accademia´ was founded in 1821 by a group of noble musicians of the time. Since the 19th century, it has been tied to classic music, fomenting and organizing concerts, opera, chamber concerts, ballet, theatre and other related shows. The show has already been seen by over 140,000 people since its premiere in 2009, and it´s already been in London, Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart and Zürich, before its arrival in Rome.
