Rive Gauche

Rive Gauche is the left shore of the river Seine that divides Paris in two parts.

Rive Droite is more associated to the city centre but, what tourists like the most is walking on the “left shore” because it was the artistic cradle for various famous painters and writers of today.

For example, Pablo Picasso lived in this area of paris and, at night, went for a drink with Rimbaud or Jean-Paul Sartre. Ernest Hemingway also went through the Rive Gauche in Paris and all of his prints cant be followed if one walks through the Montparnasse district.

Also, the Latin Quartier is located in this shore of the city and today it´s famous for its good parties, it´s joy and, above all, its cultural diversity.

In Rive Gauche, one of the most important and famous streets is Boulevard Saint-Germain that goes through three districts of Paris and where many artists lived; Boulevard Saint-Michel was also a stage of living for, for example, Paul Mounet who died in 1922 in number 63 of this street and where today there´s a commemorative plaque.

For all this flow of history and arte that Rive Gauche has, all tourists dedicate two or three days to see the area and walk through its beautiful boulevards.

To enjoy it better, rent apartments in Paris and feel like Picasso, Rimbaud or Mounet by walking the streets of Montparnasse.
