Sevilla Cathedral

The Cathedral of Sevilla is, without doubt, one of the most important monuments in the Spanish city and thanks to its imposing construction, millions of tourists visit it each year. In fact this is the third biggest church in the whole of Europe, the biggest Gothic construction on the continent and the biggest altar in the world.

The Cathedral was built on the place where the great Almohade Mosque as and it was built there to demonstrate the power and richness that the city had after the Reconquest. The legends tell that in the planning times someone said that they should build a church so big that those who saw it thought that those who were building it were mad.

For that reason they used all the income that they had to finance the construction. The cathedral was completed in little more than a century; the construction began in 1402 and finished in 1506. Considering the size of the place, it was a real achievement for the time.
