Have you already given any thought to what you are going to do when summer comes with its warm weather? If the answer is ‘go to some of the best music festivals’, then hurry up or they’ll sell out. So, leave everything you are doing right now, sit down with a highlighter in hand, open your agenda, and mark the dates of the events that follow because we are recommending them specially for you.
Tomorrowland (Boom, Belgium, July 22nd-24th)
The name of this festival’s location is a good description of the event itself, as this festival is the bomb. Every year it manages to gather over 35,000 visitors dying to make the most of this three day retreat in the company of the best electronic music artists, like the popular Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. Imagine the degree to which this event fires passions that tickets are already sold out half a year in advance and without having even announced the lineup!
Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts (Somerset, United Kingdom, June 21st-25th)
The UK is a true expert when it comes to organizing large festivals, and as such, we’ve had a really hard time deciding which of them most deserved our mention. In the end, we’ve finally decided on Glastonbury Festival, which will be holding its 46th edition this year. Glastonbury is not just about music; you’ll also find a circus, gardens with relaxation workshops, and even a movie theater between the music stages. In other words, you’ll have little time for boredom in the four days it lasts. Unfortunately, tickets are already sold out for this edition at the moment, but a special additional sale is expected. So keep your eyes peeled and don’t miss out on this chance to see the Foo Fighters, Kanye West, The Who or Rudimental.
Coachella (California, April 15th-22nd)
Under the California sun, among palm trees, and just a few minutes away from the beach… If the location of this festival sounds idyllic, wait till you see the lineup. Going to Coachella is playing it safe, as the style of the bands playing is so diverse that you are bound to find one that has you dancing like there’s no tomorrow. This year, you’ll be able to choose from among the likes of Calvin Harris, Guns n’Roses, The 1975…. Or not choose at all and see them all! But keep in mind that this festival is very popular with celebrities. So watch out if you are going to be there jumping up and down because the person behind you, that you keep elbowing, could be Paris Hilton, Justin Bieber, Patrick Schwarzenegger or Leonardo DiCaprio.
Primavera Sound (Barcelona, June 1st-5th)
Though the list of artists invited tends to be quite varied, the genre that stands out above all others is that of independent music. This year, for instance, if you visit Barcelona, you’ll be able to see Suede, LCD SoundSystem, or Radiohead. To be honest, the fact that the festival is held right by the sea is yet another detail making us want to go. And if you want to blend in with the crowd, get your hipsterest outfit ready, and don’t forget your checkered shirt, your vintage jacket, and your black frame glasses.
Sziget (Budapest, August 10th-17th)
It may seem incredible, but this event has taken the award for best festival lineup this year, and in it we find Bastille, Muse, Bring Me the Horizon, and Kodaline, among others. The gigs are held on an island that takes on the name of “Island of Freedom” for the duration of the week, and the audience is encouraged to give shape to the festival. For instance, part of the decoration on the site and on the stages is designed by the visitors themselves. Take good note of the name of this festival because if you go, in a few years you’ll be one of those saying “I was a regular at Sziget long before it became so trendy….”.
