La Maquinista is an unusual shopping centre because, at least in its biggest part, it is in open air. Because of this it is one of the biggest in Barcelona and it is in a district called Passeig de Potosí. One of the things is that, not only on weekends but also on weekdays, is that it will fill up with visitors who are not only local but also tourists and it is different to the rest of shopping centers in the city because of how it was devised without a ceiling and in open air. Being in the way it is, it houses over 200 shops in which we can find restaurants, bars to spend time with friends, men, women and children´s fashion, accessories, design and different services that will make the visitors have a great time. The good thing is that because of where it´s situated you can not just get there in a car but also in a taxi, bus or metro. If Spain is known for something it´s for its incredible dishes and its food-related culture. The Palau Güell is one of many pieces of work created by Antoni Gaudí in the city of Barcelona and, like all of them, captivates everyone for its creativity and took its place in universal history by being part of the modernist movement of the 20th century. This palace is situated in the Raval district of the city and was made on request. Eusebio Güell, a businesmman and politician of the time, ordered the architect a palace to live there with his family once it was finished. The construction began in 1886 and finished in 1888 as you can see on the plaque on the façade. Its one of the few works of Gaudí which didn´t suffer any modifications after it´s culmination. The Güell family lived in the palace until 1936 and a few years later, one of the daughters of the businessman decided to give the building to the Deputation of Barcelona because she couldn´t afford it. And that´s how, today, Palau Güell is an architectural work which is property of all Spanish people and of the world over, because it was crowned part of the World Heritage by UNESCO in 1969. The building is magnificent like all the works of the architect, but above all it highlights the creativity of its designer and the maximum exploitation of the nobleness of the used materials.
