L´Oceanografic is a giant place that finds itself located inside the complex of the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, where they present different attractions and museums. The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin is famous around the city for its history, its architecture and its role as a war memorial. Built in the 19th century, its infrastructure caught the attention at the time for its large towers that it has. One of them is 133 metres tall and it´s the highest in the city. With a neo-romanesque style, the architect that designed the place was Franz Schwechten and he never imagined that his work would be famous around the world today. In the interior of the church there are various mosaics, windows and paintings that represent the life and work of the emperor Wilhelm I, who ordered the construction in his honour. During the Second World War, the Lutheran church was bombarded and partially destroyed. Sadly, some of its towers collapsed but the ruins have been preserved as a famous monument of the city. In 1951 a restoration began which was going to complement the old and classical part of the church with a modern style. That´s how, in 1961, a new Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church was born, where the styles melt together and make one only structure with glass and stone parts together. The Column of Victory was ordered to build in 1864 to commemorate the victory of Prussia and the Austrian Empire against Denmark. Ten years later, when it was finished and inaugurated, the Column of Victory, Siegessäule in German, also represented other Prussian victories in those years so it became into a symbol of war and triumph. Like every historical monument, it´s suffered attacks and modifications during the wars in the last century. In its beginnings, the column was built in front of what today is the Reichstag building, and it was later transported to it´s current location, inside the Tiergarten park, at the “Big Star”, which is a meeting point of the five main avenues in Berlin. It´s 69 metres tall and the statue that rises at its summit is of the goddess Victoria, who, in Roman mythology, is the goddess of triumph and victory.
