Spada Gallery

The Spada Gallery is one of the most beautiful art-related places in Rome and it has some of the most important collections of the so-called Old Masters. It´s located in the district called Regola, close to the Palazzo Farnese and its gardens also have a beautiful view of the River Tiber.   The collections that you can enjoy in its corridors were recollected originally by the Cardinal Bernardino Spada (hence its name) during the 17th century, by his brother Virgilio Spada and by his nephew the Cardinal Fabrizio Spada.   Originally the place was built in 1540 by order of the Cardinal Girolamo Capodiferro and the architect that was in charge of the designs was Casale Monferrato.   Today the gallery has works by some of the most important artists of the history of art like Caravaggio, Guercino, Bruegel and Domenichino among many others. National Modern Art Gallery

The National Modern Art Gallery of Rome keeps some of the most important works of art history and walking through its corridors will positively impress all of its visitors.   At first glance, the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, which was built by Pio Placentini, was the one that housed all the works but it´s currently used only to present the temporary exhibitions. From 1915 the permanent works can be observed in the Palazzo delle Belle Arti built by Cesare Bazzani.   In the palace, that has a neoclassic construction and which is a work of art in itself, all the works belonging to artists who lived in the 19th and 20th century can be found, and the first permanent collection starts with an enormous statue of Hercules by Canova.   But there are also some smaller objects that include some writings by Napoleon and paintings by some of the much more contemporary artists like De Chrico, Modigliani, Morandi and Marini or an imposing piece on fascism by Gerardo Dattori.   But this doesn´t mean that only national artists are presented but you can also find some first class foreign ones such as Klimt, Van Gogh, Cézanne, Braque, Rodin, Pollock, Degas, Kandinski or Henry Moore.   The National Modern Art Gallery of the city is one of the most important contemporary art museums in the country. You can rent apartments in Rome and enjoy the...
