Lower East Side Tenement Museum

Lower East Side Tenement Museum or simply Tenement Museum is an atypical museum, not the classic building where one goes in to see antiques, works of art or different objects of historical value. It´s actually a museum of “bone and flesh” because what tourists go to see and get to know are the buildings of a certain street in the city of New York.

Orchard Street is the name of the street and every day it´s full of thousands of people that go there to see and find the history of the city. Located on the Lower East Side district, this museum shows the housing of the first immigrants who arrived in the United States. Thousands of people lived there decade after decade and today, that area is a museum that you can enjoy in the open air and also inside.

Number 97 of Orchard Street is the most famous address because there is where you can find the typical building that held thousands of foreigners in the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. Today you can go into this building, see how the rooms were, see the objects that they had and feel like if they were at that time of world history.
