The Museum of the Moving Image is a multimedia museum located in Astoria, in the city of Queens in New York, where there used to be the Kaufman Astoria Studios.
The place opened originally in 1988 as the American Museum of the Moving Image but, with time, it changed its name to the one it carries now. In 2008, it started a remodelation that cost US$67 million which concluded in January 2011 and was done by the architect Thomas Leeser.
The original idea of the museum was to expand the knowledge to the public and also the appreciation of the art, history, techinque and technology used in cinema, television and the digital media through recollection and preservation of artifacts related to the subject.
The permanent exhibitions of the place include a significant gallery of audiovisual components that go from films, photos and objects up to videogames.
Thanks to the important remodellation that took place recently, the audience of the place went from 60 thousand people a year in 2000 to 120 thousand in 2011.
