You can find them in the city center within walking distance of each other. Here’s a list that will help you to identify them easily:

Printa Akadémia

This store mainly showcases household items, but it also offers a mix of other cool stuff, like a silkscreen workshop, art gallery and cafe. In short it’s a concept store, the first in Budapest, in which the “eco-design” philosophy governs everything in this multipurpose space. Here you can enjoy fair trade coffee, buy furniture designed by a local artist or accessories for men, women and children. And if you have time, take part in one the workshops which are held every so often. Printa Academy is in the Jewish Quarter, at Rumbach Sebestyén utca 10.

Kék Ló

This shop is also located in the Jewish quarter, this time at Kazinczy utca 11. In Kék Ló, which means “blue horse”, they offer eco-friendly clothing as well as some garments constructed from second-hand clothes. And you can also enjoy a beer or smoke (which is still legal in Hungary). Another interesting aspect of Kék Ló are the prices. For very few (between 9 and 20) euros you can find pieces with a unique design. This is the kind of bargain that is quite simply irresistable.

Tisza Cipő

Are you looking to buy sneakers in a retro or modern style made with premium materials and in a limited edition? Then you won’t want to mimss Tisza Cipő, located at VII Károly körút 1. In addition to shoes, they also sell shirts, bags and accessories, all made with the assurance of a brand that produced shoes for the German giant Adidas during the 70s. Prices vary between 60 and 90 euros, and it’s still worth a visit even if you aren’t looking to spend that much.

The WAMP market

Hungarian designers know that WAMP is the place to be and a great place to get their products on the market. The WAMP is located in the former bus station Erzsébet tér, and it takes place once or sometimes more often every month. Its main objective is to support Hungarian fashion and design. This is why there are no antiques but rather a marketplace full of modern and unique things. The WAMP also participates in festivals, exhibitions and other events with a limited selection of young local designers.

Zach Tipton Glasses

What makes Zach Tipton’s eyeglasses special is that they are made from recycled vinyl and celluloid film strips. His models of glasses, which are both innovative and fun, have made Zach Tipton international known. Glasses can be purchased for between 70 and 200 euros, which seems okay (on the lower end, of course). If you want to take a look, Zach Tipton’s store is located at Kiraly utca 38.
