A Tour through Granada’s Best Scenic Lookouts

In the words of Antonio Machado, “All cities have their charm; Granada has its own and that of all others.” And it’s true- no matter how you look at it, its historic beauty cannot be denied and the Alhambra is the envy of any out-of-towner. This is a destination that checks all the boxes for lovers of rural tourism: fresh air from the Sierra Nevada, countless hiking routes, hammams and spas, and beaches within an hour’s drive. And who said Granada’s climate was too extreme for tourism? At its coldest, a good jacket will suffice, and Granada’s summer nights are the perfect temperature for leisurely strolls admiring its most emblematic monuments when they are all lit up. And because I sense I have already convinced you, you’ll be thrilled to know I’ve come up with a tour of the best scenic lookouts over Granada.   We’ll start at the Mirador de San Cristóbal, right by the Road to Murcia and of great scenic value, in a neighborhood that was known as la Xarea in medieval times. Taking a left on Calle Ceniceros and then walking downhill through Callejón de San Cecilio we reach the Mirador de San Nicolás, the perfect spot to watch the Alhambra turn orange at dusk. Not far from there, we find the Placeta del Comino, a small space with more defined views over the fortress, perfect for those who want to see every small detail. Placeta de Carvajales, in lower Albaicín is the next lookout point on our route. It has recently undergone restoration work, and from here we get a clear view of the...

The Five Prettiest Towns of the Vuelta

This year’s Vuelta a España will kick off on Saturday August 22nd and conclude on Sunday September 13th. The cyclists will have to pedal their way through 3,375 kilometers, starting in the town of Puerto Banús and ending up in Madrid after a three weeks of racing and giving it their most. We’ve decided to introduce you to the five prettiest towns the cyclists will pass through during their three week tour: Mijas Mijas is an Andalusian village in the province of Málaga. It comprises three different areas: Mijas Pueblo, which is the historic center, Las Lagunas and La Cala, on the coast, as any Spanish speakers among you might have guessed. Up until the 50’s Mijas was a fishing and agricultural village. Today it is known for its many beaches, its religious buildings, such as the Chapel dedicated to the Virgin of la Peña and its white houses on the slopes of the hills that surround the village. Sierra de Cazorla The Sierras de Cazorla Natural Park is located in the province of Jaén, and besides being the largest nature conservation site in Spain, and the second largest in Europe, it is one of the richest natural landscapes in terms of wildlife in the whole Iberian Peninsula. It is home to deer, mountain goats, vultures and eagles that live together in lush vegetation watered by the many rivers and waterfalls that give the place its unique freshness. Torrevieja   Located in the province of Alicante, this coastal town is known for its numerous beaches and rocky bays, like Cala de la Zorra or Cala de la Higuera. Las...

Spanish Summer Festivities

Are you from a small town? In this post, we’d like to suggest we visit some fiestas. Spain has festivities for all tastes- religious, pagan, bullfighting themed, anti-bullfighting themed, unusual, but most of all, highly entertaining. We’re at the height of summer now, and that is precisely the season when most patron saint festivities are celebrated in most Spanish towns and villages. The Best Romantic Plans in the Costa Brava

Anyone who’s visited the Costa Brava knows that the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean and other faraway tropical islands have nothing on the beaches of Spain. We have our very own slice of paradise right here. Pals, Begur, Palamós, Calella… all have a unique allure that comes with fascinating natural landscapes, longstanding tradition and cool weather. And that’s why the best escapade for a few days off with your love interest is nowhere else than under the Catalan sun. Today we’re at our most romantic to bring you the perfect plan so you can whisk your loved one off on holiday. A Dip in Aigua Xelida   This small cove by Aigua Blava is a very special place, known for its crystalline waters. Not surprisingly, it is one of the best guarded secrets of the locals. Your love and you can delight in some wet cuddles right here, set against this idyllic backdrop. The beach is really small and you’ll need to get there early. It’s also important to help the place preserve its magic, so make sure you have as little impact on the landscape as possible when visiting. Ice Cream in Calella   All the towns in this area are very much worth a visit, but Calella de Palafrugell has that characteristic marine flavor that you’ll just fall in love with. Sitting on the rocks sharing some delicious ice cream while watching the life of this fishermen’s town go by is the romantic scene you were craving for during your holidays with your loved one. Ice cream parlor L’Enxeneta offers over 20 flavors to choose from. Shopping...

Bastille Day in Paris, New York or New Orleans

“Is this a revolt?” asked Louis XVI to the Duque of Rochefoucauld, to which he replied:  “No Sire, this is a revolution.” With the intense passion flowing through the streets and the immense popularity this event gains, it´s no wonder we all know Bastille Day is closing in. With its intriguing decorum and vast diversity of visitors. Bastille Day is the place to be, especially if you´re a little bit of a Francophile. Just for a little piece of history, Bastille Day, the 14th July marks the end of the French monarchy and the beginning of the French revolution. It all began when a brave group rebelled against the King and Queen and ensured their voices were heard! Even the word Bastille comes from the French word Bastide, which means stronghold and it was only in 1880 that it was adopted as a National holiday. For those who wish to know the origin of the French flag, the 3 colors of Blue, Red and White were introduced during the revolution and together represent the following: Liberty, equality and fraternity for its people. Today, this day is celebrated far and wide. No longer just a French National day, this even is celebrated across the land and across the waters. You will find this day in France, various states of the USA including New York and New Orleans and even as far as Australia. There are Francophiles everywhere! So it´s no doubt this event is celebrated in style. Paris Paris will give the greatest welcome to this celebration and will start with La Patrouille de France, a division of France´s air...

However, in this post I’ll suggest some very specific plans- everyday plans under 30 euros to have the best time this summer.
