The acclaimed first album by Elliot Murphy, who will give one of his endearing and intense concerts in the Sala Bikini in Barcelona on March 10 (http://www.bikinibcn.com/en/concerts/_mes:03, day: 10, year: 2012 /) bore the name Aquashow in homage to his heritage and the business of the same name his father had in the fifties on the site of the World Fair held in New York , the hometown of singer, actor, journalist, poet and novelist, in 1939. Murphy´s childhood memories are compounded by the diver clowns, jugglers, comedians and swimmers a la Esther Williams, that he saw almost every day in this wonderful outdoor Art Deco theater that vibrated with the music of the great Duke Ellington.
Another decisive factor was the Sky Club, his father´s following business, located not far from where Lindbergh took off on his legendary voyage, (the transatlantic aviation feat) where he specially remembers the legendary musical evenings and dance halls where he learned to love bands like The Seeds, The Ronettes and Jay and the American.
Although his first band, The Rapscallion, wonThe Battle of the Bands hosted by the State of New York in 1966 when he was not yet 18, Murphy began writing songs four years later on the streets of Europe, where he led a bohemian life and met Federico Fellini, who gave him a small role in his disturbing and magnificent film Rome. By then Dylan´s influence and post-Cale Velvet were already noticeable so he returns to America with Aquashow becoming one of the most successful artists of the first half of the seventies.
As the growing success decreased, his prestige grew. In 1980 he decided to break with his record company and began a career as a freelance artist becoming a real cult figure in Europe, where he was gradually spending more and more time to finally settle in Paris in 1989.
From the French capital, guided by his motto “rock and roll is my addiction and my religion and literature” he undertakes marathon tours as he is on the road for most of the year. He visits Spain with such regularity that he is one of the most constant presences in the concert halls of the Spanish geography. The complicity with the Spanish public, which to he has repeatedly referred to as his favorite, makes an Elliot Murphy concert in Spain something very special, a phenomenon much more like a family reunion with our favorite eccentric uncle than a simple music concert.
A not easily forgotten experience for attendees, who mostly make vows to return to see him when he visits he city, as you´ll see for yourself if you go to the Bikini Club on March 10 when renting apartments in Barcelona
