The month of September promises to be a busy one, and for fashion designers these weeks are maddeningly intense. It’s fashion week galore from Thursday September 10th, until Wednesday October 7th, starting with New York’s and followed by London, Milan, and Paris- fashion-conscious cities whose inhabitants would never leave the house without an on-trend outfit and sunnies.
These ideal destinations await you for some sightseeing and shopping, while you partake in a multitudinous event.
New York, the First of the Big Four is Always On-Trend
NY is the epicenter of the world, and as it seems, also of fashion. This US metropolis is always granted the luxury of opening catwalk season. Fashion shows have been held in New York since the early 20th century, and as we know, the US has an intense relationship with the world of everything latest trend. In 1984, London followed in NY’s footsteps and established the London Fashion Week, followed by Paris and Milan.
With this in mind, it comes as no surprise that New York has become one of the world’s shopping meccas. If there’s anything New Yorkers are remarkably good at, it’s shopping. And if you count yourselves among the faithful followers of Carrie Bradshaw and co., you’ll surely be familiar with Fifth Avenue, and particularly the section near Central Park, with its infinite supply of prestigious fashion boutiques, or Broadway, known for its theaters, but also good for indulging in long afternoons of giving free reign to that consumerist instinct we all carry within. If you identify more with Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, your must-see is on the corner of 57th Street and 5th Avenue: where you’ll find the wondrous shop windows of brands only available to a limited few (Tiffany and Co., Luis Vuitton, Bulgari, etc.).
And we couldn’t leave out the Soho area, brimming with clothing stores for all tastes with high-street names like Urban Outfitters, All Saints and Topshop, where you can also make a pit stop for some refueling and a bite to eat.
Luckily, we have some special apartments in New York City that will be just perfect for resting those legs after the long walk.
London, America’s Match
As we mentioned earlier, the English capital didn’t want to fall behind and it now boasts its very popular London Fashion Week, which will be slightly different this year, having moved to Brewer Street, in the heart of Soho. Fashion shows will thus be held at the epicenter of vast shopping spaces and surrounded by some of the city’s best-known, most creative and cultural streets: Bond Street, Dover Street, Mount Street, Oxford Street and Regent Street. The last two of these are addresses with a particularly high density of fashion stores. All big brands have stores and windows around these downtown streets, and you won’t be able to leave without having bought yourself a much-deserved something.
What are some of the fashion names that will dazzle us that week? No less than Burberry, Topshop Unique, Paul Smith, Belstaff and an endless list of shows that you’ll be able to see if you stay at one of our London apartments.
Milan, Luxury Italian Fashion
Gucci, Prada, Emporio Armani, Giorgio Armani… the names don’t sound cheap. In fact, looking over the agenda for the Milan Fashion Week makes anyone realize that Italians have really made a name for themselves in the world of fashion.
This third event was first held in 1958 in what has come to be known as the Italian fashion capital. It is owned by the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, a non-profit association which also promotes the development of the Italian fashion industry.
The location of the Milan Fashion Week will also be an important point this September, in the Quadrilatero della moda, home to some of the most expensive boutiques and flagship stores in the world, and the four main streets where the big names in Italian fashion display their creations: Via Montenapoleone, Via Manzoni, Via della Spiga and Corso Venezia. Yet, it’s not just about the stores themselves, but the fact that the event draws in new life to the city including celebrity supermodels, personalities, designers, journalists, and all sorts of artists. There will also be no lack of parties, shopping nights, Italian aperitifs, and huge screens for viewing the shows live all over the city. Amazing! And what better way to end the day than at a Milanese apartment…
Paris, the Great French Crowning Touch
The French have it right. Their fashion week may be last in line but it won’t be last in glamour with the presence of houses like Louis Vuitton, Paco Rabanne or Chanel. Paris is the perfect venue for a fashion show, as every single one of its street corners, side streets, or forgotten little gardens is as immaculately manicured as any other private property.
The Paris Fashion Week is currently held at the Carrousel du Louvre, as well as several other venues all over the French capital. This year will also include its popular prêt-à-porter designs that glossy magazines so eagerly wait for during this event.
As one of Europe’s top capitals of fashion, Paris has a vast array of shopping areas worth visiting during a shopping escapade. From the majestic boulevard that is the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, with brand names of the likes of Luis Vuitton or Cartier, to the small Avenue Montaigne, with some of the city’s most expensive and luxurious boutiques.
The intersection between Rue Royale and Rue Saint-Honoré is another must-see for fashion addicts. It’s a the place to look around and quench one’s thirst for shopping high-end stores like those of Yves Saint Laurent or Prada, among others.
We have apartments near Le Louvre in Paris, with easy access to the city’s best shopping areas.
