If you´re a person who is interested in getting to know one of the most interesting contemporary art collections that exist, not only in Milan but in the whole of Italy as well, Il Padiglione d´Arte Contemporanea is a place that you should definitely visit.
The place is located inside the perimetre of the the Villa Reale where, before the Second World War, there used to be the palace´s stables. It´s now used for investigation purposes and also to present the contemporary art exhibition.
Padiglione was built between the years 1948 and 1954 by order of Ignazio Gardella and was one of the most significative architects in the 50s in Milan. For that reason you will not just visit an interesting collection but also a building which is a work of art within itself.
After the war, which nearly destroyed the whole of the Padigliano, the place was reconstructed following the original plans of the architect with a very striking metallic structure.
