Stedelijk Museum

The Stedelijk Museum, which was founded in 1874, is a place that was created especially to present classic works of contemporary art in Amsterdam and it´s located next to the Square Museum, the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum. For this reason, if you visit this one you´ll not only get to know it but also, at least from the outside, other important ones in the city.

One of the most striking characteristics of the Stedelijk is that it´s housed in a building made entirely out of red bricks that stand out a lot, and it´s a neo-renaissance building designed by the architect Adriaan Willem Weissman.

This museum´s collection is of over 90 thousand objects of various disciplines that include works by Edward Kienholz, Jazimir Malevich, Bauhaus and De Stij.

Since 1909, the museum is dedicated exclusively to collect provocative works of contemporary art and it also increased notably its photographic collection which enabled it to become in such an important museum that it´s compared with the Pompidou and the MoMA.

If you wish to see one of the best contemporary art museums in the world you can rent apartments in Amsterdam and walk through its extensive and interesting galleries.
