Franz Kafka is a very well known author for the quality of his work, although he did not create abundant production, the ones that he created were good enough to conquer the world. With his three published novels and his countless letters to friends and different personalities of the time, he reveled as a sensitive, intelligent and somewhat weak health man.
The writer was born in 1883 in Prague and died at the young age of 40 years in Austria. He studied during all his life, he became a lawyer and with every single action he did, he devoted himself to writing. Today he is considered as one of the greatest writers of the twentieth century. His works were translated into all languages and his books are still discussed in the literature classes of the most prestigious universities.
The metamorphosis is a short story that Kafka wrote in 1915, which caused a big stir after its publication. Jorge Luis Borges translated the original German into Spanish, and although this was not the first time the book was translated, he was the one who gave more coverage to the story. Borges was an Argentine writer who made Kafka´s Metamorphosis translation, as great as the original. By translating the book into Spanish, ordinary people were becoming aware of this magical book spread around the world.
Gregory Samsa is the main character in The Metamorphosis. This is a simple man who lives with his family (father, mother and younger sister) and works to support them. The curious thing about this short novel is that one-day Gregory wakes up transformed into a creature that is never defined. It may be an insect, a caterpillar or a worm. It is then when the storyline begins to captivate the reader.
In the early twentieth century when this book was published for the first time, a story like this was unthinkable for the conservative society of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. But it was precisely those details, which drew the attention of readers and made the book so famous, that no one wanted to put it down.
This, as well as many other Kafka’s literary works, was made into films and plays many times. The wide and varied literature features of The Metamorphosis allowed a wide range of artistic and performing arts possibilities.

Franz Kafka died in a small town called Kierling. In 1919 he got tuberculosis and since then his health broke down until his death at the age of 40. Rent apartments in Vienna and experience the city in which the author lived the last years of his life. You can even come to the city, read The Metamorphosis and get into the Kafka’s world, which surely will fascinate you. The city of Vienna is the best place to read any book by the great maestro Franz Kafka.
