Museo de Bellas Artes

The Museo de Bellas Artes (Fine Arts Museum), which in its moment was the Colegio (School) de San Pío V, was founded by the archbishop Juan Tomás de Rocabertí with the idea of being able to train priests. The idea started in 1683 but it took a lot of time to get started, and it didn´t until the end of the 18th century.

The place is divided in two parts. One is the temple and, the other, the school. The first one is a floor that has a dome which had to be reconstructed in 1925 after having been demolished. The front part was designed and built by José Mínguez and has a neoclassic and baroque design.

During many years it used to be the headquarters of the Beneficiencia but in 1835 it became part of the State and, for a long time, served as a warehouse and even a hospital.

But after the armed conflict, it finally became the Fine Arts Museum where you can find and enjoy works by great artists such as Velázquez, Goya, Pinazo, Juan de Juanes, Ribera or Sorolla among many others.

One of the most important things is that its entry is completely free so if you want to visit its galleries you won´t have to spend a penny and you´ll also be able to enjoy some of the best artists in art history, so you can rent apartments in Valencia and enjoy the Museo de Bellas Artes.
