Museo de Bellas Artes

The Museo de Bellas Artes (Fine Arts Museum) in the city of Sevilla was founded in 1835 by royal order, after various convents and monasteries were dismantled by the liberal government of the time. All the works that were in the religious institutions were taken to the new Museo de Bellas Artes and since then they are exhibited to all the community as works of art.

The museum is located where the old Convent of the Merced Alzada used to be, so the place is ideal to exhibit religious works. Since its inauguration the building has gone through some modifications and restorations, but always maintaining its classic style.

Some of the services that this museum offers the city of Sevilla is its library, although it´s only open to investigators; there´s also a shop where the visitors can buy items related to religious art.

There are many famous works in this museum in Sevilla but we can recognize, for example, The Virgin and the boy, Saint Anne teaching the Virgin to read and Judgement Day. Located in the centre of Sevilla, the tourists come here to get to know all of those works that were nearly destroyed by the liberals.

If you don´t want to miss out on this religious art collection either, get Seville accommodation and visit the Museo de Bellas Artes of the city.
