The National Ancient Art Gallery in Rome, originally called Galleria Nazionale d´Arte Antica, is divided in two buildings: one of the Palazzo Barberini and the other is the Palazzo Corsini.
The first was one was built originally for the Pope Urban VIII and the person in charge of its design was the architect Carlo Maderno, and it was located in what used to the Villa Sforza. The central superior part of the building is illustrated in the Divine Providence Allegory that was made by Pietro da Cortona and, also, by Barberini who had the mission of glorifying the Pope´s family.
Today aside from the galleries that present the art works there are also a large quantity of public organizations and, for that reason, there are some sections that are closed to the visitors.
On the other hand, the Palazzo Corsini was built originally in the 15th century and, later, in the 18th, reconstructed by the architect Ferdinando Fuga for the Cardinal Neri Maria Corsini.
In the corridors of the museum you can observe works by Caravaggio, Perugino, Poussin, El Greco, Rafael and Tiziano among many others. Without doubt this is a place to visit if you´re in the Italian city. You can rent apartments in Rome and not let this chance escape.
