Renaissance Faces at Bode Museum in Berlin
On the 25th of August, the exhibition Renaissance Faces will open at the Bode Museum in Berlin, which contents the largest exhibition of Renaissance art from the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. This exquisite exhibition is done in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will be open until November 20th. The exhibition is organized with 150 portraits painted by Filippo Lippi, Sandro Botticelli and Giovanni Bellini. The Italian portrait, in its beginnings, was marked by the realism of great Dutch painters and reflected the social status, marital status and social and aristocratic relations of the person, just by looking at his/her facial expressions. The development of portraiture in the Renaissance led to increase the demand of this kind of art in various sectors of society, who found an opportunity to perpetuate different iconography, that reflected different features such as religious devotions, an expression of love in its many facets, or religious and political images representing the dominant and political power at the time. The portraiture was also a testing ground for artists, through self-portrait and the anonymous portraits or illusory. Following the masters of the time several new techniques were developed. Fray Filippo Lippi (1406-1469), known as Lippo Lippi, entered the convent after the death of his parents. When he was only 15 years old, he began to express his artistic capacities in painting by decorating the Brancacci Chapel with Masolino and Masaccio. Protected by Cosimo de Medici, he created remarkable works, including Madonna and Child, which is preserved in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. He was a remarkable teacher of great artists as Sandro...Blue Man Group at Bluemax Theatre in Berlin
They´re called Blue Man Group and they´re an international artistic project that was founded by three eclectic, visionary and delirious artists. It´s initial origin is from the USA, where the creators Phil Stanton, Chris Wink and Matt Goldman got together with the idea to bring something new to the live artistic scene. They then though of an approach that included different languages, integrating them in a show that directly involved the spectators. It was the 80s. Of course, they managed to do it. In their shows they represent a trio of mimes called “Blue Men” and they´re known for presenting themselves on stage with their heads covered in blue latex, gloves and faces painted in the same colour and wearing black clothes. In other words, something which is visually striking and recognizable, which was the distinction of the group since their beginnings. But, what is the show all about? Basically it´s rock music, theatre and art in the broadest sense, with a lot of emphasis on percussion and interaction with the crowd that usually goes to this type of show because they´re not bothered to be “incorporated” in the show that´s going on. In other words, you have to be open to it and ready for everything that could possibly happen. That way, this group is known amongst many other things for covering the people who go to their shows and sit in the front rows in plastic to avoid them getting covered in paint, food and strange liquids that they use during their performance. The reason why it´s worth going to a Blue Man Group show is because...Shazzula DJ in White Trash in Berlin
The genre of Psychedelia moves in different fields and latitudes, different styles, genres and subgenres. MAybe what characterizes it the most is the wish of experimentation, the intention of making of music a deep and prolonged voyage, that seduces both the interior voyage with the voyage itself through recreational substances. If you think that psychedelia is ´Yellow Submarine´ of The Beatles and also ´In A Gadda Da Vida´ of Iron Butterfly, then you´re very wrong. Psychedelia established itself before any of those songs and in different forms when referring to experimental sound. It did so musically and with drugs to create new shapes and sensations, new aims for Rock n Roll. Shazzula is probable the most renown DJ today in that genre. Her constant trips around Europe have made her receive thousands of fans and people interested in her hypnotic sessions of Heavy-Space-Psych. Originally from Brussels. Shazzula began her career being a garage and fuzz rock DJ among other 60s genres. She also organized the short-lived but forever remembered Suicide Twist Festival, where the French band Aqua Nebula Oscillator, an acid Paris band of strident sounds, with maximum fuzz and plenty of attitude became known. With them, Shazzula recorded probably the best album of these French guys until today: ´Under the Moon of Aqua Nebula Oscillator”, an album that explores both the dirtiest of Rock n Roll with strong influences of The Stooges and Blue CHeer with the long lysergic sounds and synth effects. Shazzula brought to this recording her torn and wild voice, as well as different effects and the spoken word. As well as having participated various...Bierfestival in Berlin: Aphrodisiac beer
Maybe it was the Egyptians who were among the first to enjoy the pleasures of beer. They were the ones who from the hops of barley began to prepare this alcoholic drink that, for many centuries, hasn´t stopped accompanying humanity. Each place in the world has its own definition of beer and its own way to prepare it. That way, in any part of the world that you travel to, you´ll always find different ones and with these new beers, new adventures for your palate and your sense, the own delusions that alcohol brings to the body and that make a thousand things happen, from going out dancing like crazy to meeting someone new and ending up in bed with them. Maybe we´re not too sure, they say that the most frenetic sex comes after a couple of beers. But is beer the best aphrodisiac? Some say so. On one hand there´s the wine, that with its dense essence it usually unleashes hot passions, raises the temperature and relaxes the body. However the wine, at the same time as it unleashes libidos, it slows down the senses and doesn´t allow the loving act to be quick and versatile, and so a touch wilder. Love is a war of prey and predators that never ends. On the other hand we have the cocktails: sex on the beach, the tonics, the sours, the daikiris… So much colour and so much flavour. When was the last time that a mango daikiri gave you the hots? Such large amounts of sugar in these drinks make the level of alcohol settle so much quicker...Fashion catwalk in Berlin subway
How necessary fashion is for us and how important it is for us to be aware of it. They are not only dress codes but also cultural trends: political game, genres that mix up and explode; lean figures on the catwalk in a performance that also represents the changing of seasons, and with each new season new desires, ways of dressing and understanding everything. Obviously, reality is dressed up, the world is dressed up. Your body is seized with a coat of cloth and plastic and latex and leather, culture has made you wear it so that you can move in it. Despite being naked, you are dressed but with other body, other signals, other rhythms. Berlin continues to be exhausted in provocative and “cutting edge” attitudes. Evidence of this is the Underground Catwalk, to be held on July 6 in the underground of this city which, despite wars, bombings and nefarious dictators, has been able to be undone and rebuilt, to become today, and since quite long ago, one of the world´s cultural capitals. F**k Paris! Yes Berlin! As the catwalk slogan says: “step into the underground!” This parade is marked by trends and irreverent, urban designs, all influenced by the “underground” fashion. The catwalk will take place in two different underground travels; one will be the Street-Couture and the other U-Couture. More than twenty different brands and exclusive designers will show the latest in street urban and sports fashion, and of course, influenced by the culture of rock, gothic, punk and pin-up aesthetic among others. Rockstar Models agency’s girls and boys will put into movement and madness...Carnival of Cultures in Berlin
From the 10th to 13th of June we will have the opportunity to enjoy the Carnival of Cultures in Berlin. A festival that fills the streets of the German capital, with joy, dancing and debauchery, just as said by those who have experienced one of the best parties of late spring. Carnival of Cultures was created as a celebration of the immigrant population, roughly about 450,000 inhabitants, of the total population of 3.4 million. They brought new influences to the culture of Berlin. In 1995 the city radically changed due to the fall of the Wall and the unification of East and West Berlin. This resulted in conflicts of intolerance and rejection, probably due to the political and economic crisis. Ethnic groups clashed and a unifying thread between the various Cultures was needed. The concepts of City and diversity, gave life to Workshop of Cultures, which brought together communities from different religions, nationalities, races and cultures in order to unify efforts around a political platform based on cultural diversity and tolerance. The carnival was the unifying thread. The Carnival was founded in 1996 with the aim of achieving integration through artistic expression, also by means of the creation of hundreds of jobs generated from the organization and activities performed during the two days of the carnival. Since then, the Carnival became the most important festival for migrants from all over the continent who live in Berlin. European models, mainly Italian and Spanish, inspired the Carnival, although this event has its own idiosyncrasy. Ethnic groups from around the world, gather every year in Berlin to present their arts and expose...Cabinet @ Quartier 206
