Paco Gómez in Barcelona, Orden y Desorden
On the 6th of October, the exhibition ´Orden y Desorden´ by the self-taught photographer Paco Gómez will be inaugurated in the Foto Colectania Foundation in Barcelona. The exhibition has the title of the book that Laura Torré edited on the work of this photographer, known for capturing simple images of the second half of the 20th century in Spain. TH exhibition commissioned by Torré, who investigated exhaustively the work of Paco Gómez, is composed by 75 images that were selected from an archive of 25,000 negatives and 1,000 original photographs. From them, most are in black and white. The archive was given by the heirs to the Foto Colectania Foundation for its custody and preservation. The Foundation has coedited with Editorial RM a version of the book ´Orden y Desorden´ which can be found in bookshops in Spain and around the world. Paco Gómez was born in Pamplona in 1918. His initiation in photography was early, however, in 1956 he joined the Royal Photographic Society of Madrid and began to be known for his thesis on the role of photography and the photographer. These were the times of the Franco dictatorship and large part of the photographers who had made a political militance out of their job were in exile, which meant a violent rupture in the continuity of the aesthetic discussions previous to the Spanish Civil War, from there that the thesis on the aesthetic considerations in photography that surrounded Gómez from the La Palangana Group were a novelty. Gómez had been the founder of La Palangana and he criticised the conservative nature of photography which predominated in...Market of Miracles in Venice
Our fixation of antiques is really curious. We´re always exposed to new objects that surround us, to fulfill a use and then let them go, without it being too important where they came from or what purpose they had. The velocity of today´s consumption makes that products, tools and objects that we consume are of easy movement so we can get rid of them easier and without too much insistence. Things, now more than ever, could be made not to perish but, however, the demands of the international market in all its aspects, makes us consume quicker and in bigger quantities, because we have to keep ´recycling´ materials. Despite that, the need for natural resources has also grown and the computer that you bought two years ago, possibly, instead of being updated, renovated or improved, is thrown in the street waiting for the bin man to come and take it away. But an object fills with meaning with its use, with the benefits that it gives us, with what it tries to do at home and with what happens around it and its history. Fetishes aren´t necessarily of erotic connotations, but also of emotional value, which go with everyone´s personal history. And there´s no other option. When it comes to computers, televisions, audio or video players, every year there´s the appearance of new formats, new prices, new image resolutions and everything ´un-updates´ itself at high speed. This is no coincidence, his isn´t technological advance, this isn´t the great ´advance´ of science to bring us better and more efficient products: technology and science are conditioned by a hungry market for...Le 7 Meraviglie of Rome

The mystique of vinyl continues to grow. The ominous vinyl problem is a different thing nowadays… Let´s see, collectors do not stop buying super expensive vinyl editions of past classic. “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn” for example, by Pink Floyd, the first edition, would cost around a few thousand dollars or more at this time and age due to the historical value of the product. Many businesses, shops, websites and other resources, take advantage of this to generate a large demand, setting values ??according to the condition of the vinyl, its origin, cover, etc.. But say, if you buy the recent reissue of “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn” is very likely that level of resolution you receive is the exact same than the original mega expensive product. Simple. Vinyl is so valuable precisely because it deteriorates very slowly and if kept in an appropriate way, it preserves the sound in a in excellent conditions. If you have an old vinyl, it will never lose its good resolution. On the other hand, if you buy a new one, it will not fail in years. Collectors of course always aim for records that have not been re-released for some reason or another , and then prices will rise or fall. With the advent of the CD many people threw their vinyl away and did not know what they were doing. MP3 came around and ruined the party for everyone, both for collectors and people from mega industries, but which is fine. MP3, has the power to move around the world in real time, and now nothing prevents...Inrockuptibles Festival Paris
