Francisco de Goya is one of the most important painters born in Spain and for that reason its tomb was converted into a museum and, also, the building is considered one of Madrid´s most important monuments.
The Ermita de San Antonio de la Florida was declared, by the Government, National Monument in 1905 and inside there´s a museum that, despite being small, it possesses a special significance both for Spanish people and for the tourists that walk daily through its galleries.
The paintings that are on the murals were painted by Goya himself in 1798 for a work that was ordered to him without knowing that, in the end, it would end up keeping his remains.
The monument in question was built in 1792 and six years later, by order of King Carlos IV, and the architect who was in charge of doing the work was Felipe Fontana. Many years later, in 1928, it was finally declared a museum by the Government and today it can be visited and you can enjoy some of the most interesting paintings that the famous Spanish artist carried out.
You can visit the Panteón de Goya and see the murals that he painted himself but remember to get Madrid accommodation before.
