Pergamonmusem

The Pergamonmuseum is, together with the Neues Museum, the most relevant in the whole of Berlin and this building, which was inaugurated in 1930, also finds itself of Museum Island where all the important museums are in the German city.

 

The Pergamonmuseum is the most visited in the whole of Berlin and you can enjoy one of the world´s most important antique collections. One of the most important objects that it has is the Pergamon Altar which was built over two thousand years ago with the intention of thanking the gods. The importance of this altar is because it was dug up from the Greek city of Pergamon, despite it being mostly destroyed, and it gives its name to the museum.

 

On the other hand you can also enjoy the gate of the Roman market of Miletus, which was built in the year 120 AD, which has no less than 17 metres in height and that had to be restored after an earthquake in the Middle Ages destroyed it.

 

Also, on the second floor of the museum, there´s a great ancient Islamic art collection where you can observe crafts from this civilization that goes from the 8th century up until the 19th.
