Malasaña is the area in Madrid where the alternative scene takes place. The most important area is around the Plaza Dos de Mayo, which many compare with Camden Town in London, the East Village in New York or the Barrio Alto in Lisbon although here the emphasis is focussed less on the trendy places and more on the bars.
The Plaza Dos de Mayo is to the west of Chueca and to the east of Argüelles and it´s currently one of the more relevant places where you can go for a drink and to enjoy the night because, in the 70s and 80s, that´s where the movement called Movida (cultural change that happened after the death of Franco in 1975) developed.
The area in the square is full of very interesting bars and clubs where the young people go for a walk to to enjoy of the long nights in Madrid. Its streets are constantly being renovated because the idea is to keep the place as attractive as possible so that it doesn´t lose it´s avant-garde essence.
The centre of the Plaza Dos de Mayo is one of the typical areas to enjoy nightlife with background music that comes from the surrounding bars. Some of the more interesting places that you can visit are La Vía Láctea, Penta, Nueva Visión or La Vaca Austera.
You can get Madrid accommodation and enjoy one of the best nightlife places.
