15 Years of Music at Primavera Sound in Barcelona

Primavera Sound is an unmissable rendezvous for any self-respecting festival goer, and more so this particular edition of the festival, which marks its 15th anniversary. A festival that started in 2001 with a mere 7,700 visitors, and which managed to bring together no less than 190,000 people last year. This level of success in such a short period of time makes the festival unique. But worry not because there’s still time- you have until May 30th to get your act together. What are you waiting for; get your Primavera Sound 2015 tickets already!

2015 Lineup

Funnily enough, the organizers revealed their 2015 lineup through a videogame hidden behind the application Line App. 1200 people were able to play the game and unveil the lineup live in Barcelona. The point of the game was to help the protagonist get to the festival in one piece, after slaying all the monsters on his path. In the last screen of the game, displayed as credits, the gamer would be shown, one by one, the names of all the bands chosen to play in this edition of the festival. They are Spanish, Canadian, American, British, Australian, German, etc. And here is a sneak peek: The Black Keys, Caribou, Patti Smith, The Swans, Antony and the Johnsons, Belle and Sebastian, The Strokes, Alt-J, James Blake, Albert Hammond, Benjamin Booker, Dj Coco, Dixon, Interpol, Panda Bear, The New Pornographers, The Suicide Of Western Culture, Christina Rosenvinge, Los Punsetes, Miquel Serra, Hiss Golden Messenger, Sleater Kinney, Núria Graham and Mac DeMarco. These are some of the talented artists that will grace the stage at Barcelona’s Parc del Fòrum this year.

  • The first show in the history of the festival was Sr. Chinarro, responsible for firing the starting gun that would set off the first edition of the festival back in 2001.
  • Topping the list of repeat offenders are Shellac, who have played the festival 8 times and will be back for more in this 2015 edition.
  • The longest concert up to date was that of The Cure, who revisited their musical trajectory in a show that lasted well over 3 hours (it must have been epic).
  • While Julian Cope showed up all alone, Arcade Fire arrived with an entourage of 60- between musicians, crew and staff. This is without a doubt the largest backup up to date.
  • The youngest artist to perform was Candela y los Supremos, at 7 years of age. And the most veteran, with a few more years behind him, was master of jazz Marshall Allen, from Sun Ra Arkestra, about to turn 90.
