Quirinale Palace is an architectural work of great historical value in the city of Rome. Built for over two centuries (16th – 18th) the palace went through many architects and owners.
It was ordered by Pope Gregory 13th and it belonged to the pontifices until the 19th century. The Popes used the palace as a summer residence because it was close to The Vatican, it was extensive, comfortable and it was also right in a strategic point of the city.
Later, the palace belonged the the crown and, at last, it transformed into a presidential palace, after the abolishment of the monarchy.
Interesting for its history, the palace housed thousands of cultural exhibitions and it opens its doors to visitors from all over the world that want to see it inside.
The name of the palace comes from the small hill where it was built, the Quirinale hill. In the same district we can find the Fontana de Trevi and other tourist attractions of the city, so a tour around the area is recommended.
