The Statue of Liberty is one of the most famous monuments in the world and like the Eiffel Tower represents France and the Pyramids represent Egypt, the Statue of Liberty represents not only New York but the whole United States.
It´s located on the island of Liberty, in Manhattan, since 1886, the year of its inauguration. This statue was a gift that France gave to the United States in commemoration of the hundred years of its independence. And the most curious of it all is that the engineer Gustave Eiffel was who, together with the French artist Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, designed and created such architectural and artistic construction. So the creator of the famous Eiffel Tower also left his footprint in the United States participating in the creation of this beautiful sculpture to liberty.
A few years later, at the beginning of the 20th century, the Statue of Liberty was nominated National Monument of the USA and since 1984 it´s a World Heritage Site according to UNESCO.
