Sziget festival 2013

Summer is already here and with it came the open-air festivals that’ll fill with music our sunny season. If you are a summer-festival hunter, Sziget festival is a must-go event for you in Budapest.

An entire week filled with over 1000 shows of all kinds, each year attracts around 400,000 visitors from around the world eager to be part of the biggest summer festival in Europe. Festivalgoers will also have the possibility of camping (room for 40,000 campers) on a safe place that has around 1,500 security staff and 10,000 in charge of general service, responsible for creating a clean and friendly atmosphere during the event.

Sziget Festival takes place on the 108-hectares island of Óbuda, which is located a few kilometers from the center of Budapest. Apart of music for all tastes, the visitors will be able to enjoy a wide range of activities including climbing, bungee jumping, tennis and football, as well as access to a cinema and a theater.

The 2013 edition of the festival, which by the way was awarded as the best summer festival in 2012, will display performances by various bands from all around the world.

On the 6th of August, two Hungarian bands will delight the audience with a parallel between the modern sounds of alternative rock by Quimby in Wonderland and the Hungarian traditional folk music by Muzsikás, while creating an ideal environment for the enjoyment of the festival.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds is the most acclaimed band on the 7th of August. They will certainly perform their song “We call upon the Author”, while spreading their unique energy among the audience. Alex Clare, Bat for Lashes, Blaudzun, Chase & Status live , Chris Liebing, Csík Band and Friends, Deichkind, Die Ärzte, Dubioza Kolektiv, Everything Everything, Feed Me DJ set, Flogging Molly, Hoffmaestro, La Pegatina, Moana & The Tribe, Nina Kraviz, Oscar Mulero, Skunk Anansie, Tako Lako, The Joy Formidable y Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Everything Everything, Feed Me DJ set, Flogging Molly, Hoffmaestro, The Sticker, Moana & The Tribe, Nina Kraviz, Oscar Mulero, Skunk Anansie, Tako Lako, The Joy Formidable and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs will also be the hosts of the party on the 7th.

On August 8, the Russian-American singer Regina Spektor will combine punk, rock and jazz to perform her famous anti-folk sounds that will leave the audience breathless. On the same day we’ll see the performance by Afterhours, Bad Religion, Balthazar, Biffy Clyro, Chuckie, Dizzee Rascal, Donots, dOP, Dub FX, Michael Kiwanuka, Nero, Nicky Romero, Pannonia Allstars Ska Orchestra, Parno Graszt feat. Latcho Drom, Rachid Taha, Ska-P, Triggerfinger, Warsaw Village Band, Wax Tailor.

The British Blur and the American !!! will spice up the atmosphere of the festival during the 9th of August. Joining them we’ll see performances by: Booka Shade live, Calexico, DakhaBrakha, Dry The River, Emir Kusturica & The No Smoking Orchestra, Monophona, Mystery Jets, Left Boy, Little Boots, Peter Bjorn & John, Rangleklods live, Sebastian Ingrosso, Seeed, Shutka Roma Rap, SKIP&DIE and  Woodkid.

On the 10th of August, the electronic sounds by the Dutch Noisia will produce varied emotions among the spectators, who will enjoy a sixth day festival with performances by:  Cankisou, Daily Bread, Editors, Emilíana Torrini, Enter Shikari, Gesaffelstein, Guy J, Hadouken!, John Digweed, Jozif, Leningrad, Mika, Mokoomba, Nneka, Noisia, Parov Stelar, Band, Söndörgő and Timbuktu.

During the last day of the festival, the Scottish band Franz Ferdinand and the French Zaz will inspire audiences with their passionate songs. Alongside them, Azealia Banks, Besh o droM, Boys Noize live, Camo & Krooked DJ set, Empire of the Sun, Erol Alkan, Felix Cartal, Figli Di Madre Ignota, Kabatronics – Fanfara Tirana meets Transglobal Underground, Katy B, Netsky live, R.U.T.A, Rubik, Splendid, Tame Impala, The Bots and The Cribs and The Gaslight Anthem will make a festival hard to forget.

The acclaimed David Guetta will close the festival on Sunday night, when we’ll also have the chance to see an amazing fireworks show with which the festival will end.

Sziget Festival 2013 will take place on the island of Óbuda from the 5th to the 12th of August. Tickets are now available online: Sziget Weekly Pass (including camping) costs 229 Euros, Sziget 5 Days Pass can be purchased for 199 Euros and if you just want to come just to one day of the festival, tickets cost 45 Euros a day.
