The city has several green areas that can be enjoyed in any season of the year. There are two parks that should definitely be on your itinerary. And Shijyuku Gyoen is one of the best places to enjoy the spring hanami (the time when one can see the cherry blossoms) and momiji in autumn (when the leaves turn red).
