The Torre del Oro in Sevilla is one of the most important monuments in the city and it was built with the intention of serving as a place so that the observers were alert to the arrival of possible enemies during the dynasty of Almohad around the area of the river Guadalquivir.
It was built in the 13th century and, also, it was used as a prison during medieval time and as a place where they stored the precious metals that the fleets traded regularly (this is probably the real origin of its name according to different historians).
The tower is divided in three different floors. The third one was added in 1760 and it´s completely circular and united at the time of its construction through the wall with the Torre de la Plata, that still stands today.
Today, the Torre del Oro is one of the most important monuments and one of the most visited in Sevilla, as hundreds of thousands of tourists visit it each year to observe a construction that dates from many centuries ago and that still maintains its original shape.
Those who want to visit it can rent Seville accommodation and enjoy a beautiful city as well as this monument.
