The Ungovernables arrives in the New Museum in New York. Under this successful label of ungovernables, the American institution, as part of its Triennial of Art, the most suggestive chosen by artists, coming literally from all over the world and born between the mid of the seventies and mid eighties. These ungovernables barely are thirty-five years old and many of them are still on their twenties.
This second New York triennial (the first was held in 2009 under the title “Younger than Jesus”, artists who by that time were less that thirty-three) aimed to put into the arena of international emerging proposals, works of artist, no matter their political stance, religious or philosophical currents. This is about giving some spaces to artists, who, otherwise, would be in risk of putting themselves permanently at the borders of the (un) communication. For the tourist or the local, these events are designed for all contemporary art lovers, it will be open until the 22nd of April. And what is what is presented in “Ungovernables “? Well, beyond the traditional genres (painting, sculpture, drawing…), the organizers have opted to prioritize works that, in one way or another, affect the temporary, or the transtemporary nature of the contemporary world. Big sculptures are part of facilities, performances and video projects. In addition, it is not given any priority to the individual artist with their name, though of course, instead of that, the artists make a synergy and even activities and products implemented by a group of artists are associated temporarily with the exhibition.
That is, if the boundaries of genres are diluted (which has been developing since the avant-garde), same thing happens to the boundaries that the author himself has (extreme peak protected by the expansion of the Internet). From the Argentinean artist Adrian Rojas Villas, a favorite of museum and who has been featured in another project, to the CAMP group, founded in Mubai, to any location on the planet have no place in this exhibition. Facilities (which combined the musical techniques) of the Brazilian Jonathas de Andrade´s, the Indonesian House of Natural Fiber, established in Indonesia, the works of the Peruvian Rita Ponce de Leon or proposals for Hu Xiaoyuan from China also deserve our attention. The second Triennial of Art in New York aims to rush a dialogue between tradition and young artists who can not be that critical of a system that relegates all about creating boundary lines that do not benefit humanity. From childhood anarchy Flower Power movement of sixty-eight have reached a state anarchist in spirit, but submissive to the economic powers, in essence. And this contradiction is trying to be shown at the Ungovernables.
