Absinthe in Barcelona

Absinthe in Barcelona

Among all the beverages in the world, there is probably no other that has a so admirable and awe legend as the absinthe, traditionally called the green fairy in reference to both, its emerald color when it reaches the perfect distillation, in no case less than seventy degrees, and the magical world that it gives access to, an altered state of consciousness as fertile, active and potentially frightening that can lead you either to heaven or to hell. That is why for the second romanticism, modernism and the symbolist movements, it became the drink par excellence, while leaving countless evidence of which there are testimonies in both, literature and painting of the last third of the nineteenth century and the early years of the twentieth century in the work of artists like Rimbaud and Verlaine to Oscar Wilde, Van Gogh to Picasso, until it was banned in 1915 on behalf of public health to save citizens from the dangerous and aberrant hallucinations that apparently only this beverage was capable of causing , something that was seen significantly more important than protecting them from the dangerous and abhorrent realities that those authorities had no qualms of prohibitionist fed through a war of unprecedented destructive power at that time, and which was proven to devastate chilling impact beyond the words. There have never been enough words to adequately define the experience of drinking absinthe despite having been described countless times every single detail of its ceremony, also memorably represented in painting and in film. Due to its high ethyl content, you should place a teaspoon at the bottom of a glass...
The Daisy Age in Amsterdam

The Daisy Age in Amsterdam

Despite the law that turns the famous coffeeshops into private clubs throughout the Netherlands with restrictive measures on the sale of marijuana, despite the threat of having the Red Light District closed to nonresidents, despite regulations on all areas of this mythical city, a flagship of freedom and limitless subversiveness,  Amsterdam still retains the spirit of protest inherited from the Flower Power Revolution of 1968. Although sites where to exercise their particular way of libertarian life are reduced, in the capital of Holland places to have fun and listen to music and dance still exist. One such place is The Daisy Age with the programed parties by Bitterzoet . So what is  The Daisy Age? In essence, a nightclub centered on that street dance born in the eighties and named “dance floor”. From the streets of New York, urban tribes disenchanted with the system, and at the same benefiting from the recesses of it, began to express themselves with a type of dance, halfway between gymnastics and dancing, with its emphasis on acrobatics that can be performed on the floor. Those who have reached forty know what exactly I´m talking about. Younger people have seen this type of dance only in movies of that time. “Dance floor” runs parallel to techno, electronic music and mixes created by in fashion DJs . The musical experiments began at the same time youth was born and raised in the benefits of a capitalist development, being expressed personally and even individualistically. There is a nightclub in Amsterdam that has on it s payroll or invites leading DJ´s of all possible international musical trends , especially...

Titanic The Exhibition in Barcelona

Titanic The Exhibition in Barcelona

A story that touches thousands of people in the world, first for being real and secondly and more importantly, because it reminds us that, even though sometimes we believe, we are strong and invulnerable, we are only human, who make mistakes in a world in which we are just one specie among many others, which constantly reminds us of nature. This is the story of the Titanic, the largest and most luxurious ship in the world during the early twentieth century, the protagonist of one of the most instructive tragedies of human history. It was in 1911 when the famous ship first touched the sea, after two years of construction, which was not completed after a year of being “thrown”. It was so advertised the safety of the new “monster” of the seven seas in many media of the time described it as “impossible to sink”. Unfortunately nature had different plans, which helped by the bad maneuver of a captain so-convinced of the titanic, led the ship to eventually brake in half the ship, while taking over 1500 people. Titanic the Exhibition, reconstructs step by step the life of the ship, while telling visitors its history through real objects, maps, charts of the time, as well as pieces of the ship and most importantly, personal belongings of the passengers, both deceased and the survivors,  gathered in recent testimonies recorded after many years. Also, there are press releases that show the impact that caused the accident in the society, as well as recreations of the most luxurious ship. The exhibition, which is already in the Barcelona Maritime Museum, will be...
The Temper Trap Concert in New York

The Temper Trap Concert in New York

On the 5th of June, at Terminal 5 in New York, the Austrialian rock band The Temper Trap will be performing live. This concert is part of their tour, which stops by in New York to present them their new and old songs. Their success is based on the special chords that come from their instruments, especially the guitars, which have a pulsating sound that provoke interesting feelings of freedom. This has made them a well-loved band among indie rock lovers, despite that their style goes a bit further, from post-punk revival to alternative rock. The band is made up by Dougy Mandagi on lead guitar and vocals, Jonathon Aherne on bass, Lorenzo Sillitto on guitar and keyboards and Toby Dundas on the drums. Since their beginnings, they´ve been compared with great bands such as Radiohead, Coldplay and Massive Attack, despite them saying that they´ve always had their own sounds, different from any other band. Producer Jim Abbiss was so impressed by the new sounds of the band that approached them to offer them a record deal, with Conditions being the resulting album. In this album we can find Sweet Disposition, which became famous thanks to the film 500 days of summer, directed by Marc Webb, which is about a new style of love and heartbreak. The one who started The Temper Trap is Dougy Mandagi, who was stimulated by his father to have a special feeling for music since he was a young kid. Of Thai origin, he did a route of the islands of that country until he arrived in Australia and began to work in a...
