The Contemporary Art Museum of Barcelona, also known as MACBA, was created especially with the intention to present exhibitions or works that were created during the second half of the 20th century. The place was born thanks to the writer and critic Alexandre Cirici-Pellicer who, in 1959, started to collect the works that are now exhibited in its galleries. After many comings and goings to determine where the museum would be situated, the building finally opened its doors on November 28th, 1995, in the district of El Raval, which is very close to the Contemporary Culture Centre (CCCB). In MACBA you can enjoy works from artists who were key in the development of world art, like Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Marcel Duchamp, Joaquín Torres-García, Antoni Tàpies, Pablo Palenzuelo, Miquel Barceló or Roy Lichtenstein, as well as authors who aren´t currently famous but who show big signs of promise. The creator of this building was the American architect Richard Meier and his idea was to unite the contemporary art which is presented inside of MACBA with the historical shapes that can be seen in the surrounding buildings. If you want to go to one of the most important museums in the city, you can rent apartments in Barcelona and enjoy some of the most important artists that the 20th century...
