Via de´ Tornabuoni

Via de´ Tornabuoni is one of the most famous streets in Florence because it crosses the city and it connects the Piazza degli Atinori with the Piazza della Trinità.   The name of the via (street in Italian) comes from the surname of a very famous family in Florence in the 15th century, the Tornabuoni. They lived on this same street and they still have a beautiful house there, one of the oldest in the city.   The importance of this family stood in the political actions and in their economic influence towards the different markets. Two important personalities of the family were Lucrezia Tornabuoni who was a lover of literature and Giovanna degli Albizi who was the wife of a Tornabuoni and was known for her magnificent celestial beauty. Museum of San Marco

The building that houses the Museo di San Marco, that opened its doors to the public in 1869, is one of the oldest of the Dominican Order and, for that reason, before inaugurating as a museum it had to be restored and enlarged, project that was performed by the architect Michelozzo. Galileo Museum
