Ara Pacis or Altar of Peace in English, is a Roman monument of the Imperial period. It´s one of the oldest in the world because it was built from the years 13 BC to 9 BC. The altar is dedicated to the goddess of Peace because it was ordered to build by emperor Augustus after he managed to impose peace in two regions. The legend tells that every year at the Altar of Peace, they had to sacrifice two oxes and a ram so that the goddess carried on protecting them. But not only the story of this monument is interesting but also its materials and architecture. Made out of Carrara marble, the Ara Pacis is not very tall and has no roof. It´s made especially for the sacrifice of animals and so it has two main doors, a front one for the priest orientated to the east and another one at the back for the animals to go in, orientated to the west. Today the Altar of Peace is covered by a building that was constructed to protect it from any impact. And although its structure isn´t complete or stable, you can appreciate the work of art of its wonderful figures cut into the marble. Rent apartments in Rome and go out to enjoy the city, its monuments and its fascinating...

The Monasteries of the Jerónimos of Belém are considered one of the most famous works of Lisbon and the whole of Portugal. Faithful representatives of the Manueline style, it´s the construction that stands out the most in this architectonic category from the time where Gothic and Renaissance mixed. Located in the famous district of Belém, the church/monastery was designed by Juan del Castillo in the 16th century. It´s importance is because it contains the remains of Manuel I and all of his family, among many other kings of Portugal who rest in peace there. Also poets, writers and great navigators lay in the Monasteries of the Jeronimos, giving it special relevance to its lives and works. In 1850 two museums were added to the building: the Museo de la Marina and the National Archeology Museum, which are found on the different wings of the construction. Recently, in 2007, the Treaty of Lisbon was signed there, which replaces the European Constitution, which makes it a historical building of yesterday and today. There isn´t a tourist that passes through the city and who doesn´t know the monasteries. For this, get Lisbon accommodation and enjoy the city and all of its history and...

Important in the voyages of discovery because it was the starting point and because it was the last thing that the sailors saw of mainland and of their country. As a symbol of Portugal, UNESCO named the Tower of Belém as World Heritage and, for that, it´s visited by thousands of tourists every day. In charge of the construction was Francisco de Arruda, who built various Manueline architectural works for Portugal and the Tower of Belém is one of the most famous in the world. Adorned with towers, spheres, ropes cut into stone, a rhinoceros and the cross of the Order of Christ, it defines the style of the artist. Inside the Tower of Belém, we can observe a Gothic style and an extensive lounge that used to be used to store arms, prison and as a collection point. But the most significative of the tower is the sculpture of Nuestra Señora de la Fiesta de Seguridad, that represents protection and care to those who sailed out to sea was the last image that they saw and they prayed to her for a good voyage. If you want to have a beautiful day with a view of the sea, visit...
